I was wondering if anyone owns a Ruger M77 in .35 Whelen yet. It's on my list of maybes but I need to know what kind of throat Ruger used.

Thanks,
MJ

My 35W is a Rem 700. Unfortunately in 1:16 twist (should be 1:12 or 1:14).

There's nothing wrong with a 16" twist and it is preferable in my mind to a 12" twist. I own a 16" twist 336A in .35R that will out shoot my .358 Haweye (12" twist) all the way to 2100 fps using SAECO 352 at 250-252 grains. The "secret" is the 336A has seven, .005" deep grooves while the Hawkeye has six, .0035" deep grooves. Also, the Ruger Hawkeye needs a BHN 22 bullet (I HT to get to this level) whereas, the 336A will perform well with alloy as soft as BHN 14 at this pressure/velocity level.

I thought you meant Iowegians (Hawkeyes) on I-35 running through Des Moines.

MJ... before you drop any coin on one of these Hawkeyes make sure the twist is 1:16.... I know Rugers website says 1:16 but I wounldn't be surprised if they have a 1:12 twist... My Lipsey Ltd. edtion #1 in 35 Whelen has a 1:12 twist...
