While working on my 1927a1 Thompson case build today the proverbial light bulb came on and I realized a couple of correct old timey cartridge boxes would creatively fill the few voids in my case. I found theammoboxguy selling repro .45acp boxes on fleabay and ordered a set of 4 twenty round boxes with red/pink labels that are supposed to look like ones the .45 commercial suppliers used. [I’ve got a brown 50 rd gi box from the ‘70s.] Anyone have a vintage cardboard box from the 20s or 30s to share a photo of? Are these repros correct or correct enough?

This guy sells original boxes with original ammo so they are pricy but he has photos of the boxes:

45-70 UMC. "U.S. SPRINGFIELD RIFLE MUSKET / Model 1874". Berdan primers, ca late-1870s. Box only has (and ever had) a top primary label. RARE!

266698 I have this box and 20 loaded, Berdan primed cartridges that I was given "Because you have a 45-70."

I have some of those same ordnance dept marked 45acp shot cartridge boxes.
Ive been told they were intended for crowd control and pretty valuable to a Thompson collector.

The Thompson riot control shot loads did not use a necked-down, extended case, but a paper shot container in a standard .45 ACP case. The WW2 shot loads were intended for small game hunting as is so indicated on the box.

My bad,, my eyes arent what they once were.
Guess I have the early, more valuable kind... ;)

Nice WWII .45, clean em up. Not sure where my antique 45 ammo is, IIRC it’s in a WWI wooden ammo box.....probably buried under stuff ...
