A friend has given me some alloy that is fairly hard and VERY silvery looking.
This alloy was in an electric cooker taht he aquired and had already been melted.
The big question is, the cooker only goes to 400 degrees, and that was hot enought to melt the alloy.
Hepored the alloy off and tried to melt pur lead in the cooker, and all the ingets did were to turn kinda bluish, never even deformed.
Curious as to what this alloy might be

Might be tin...

at that low of a temp i would suspect at least a high tin content.
igot some scrap lead straps that i melted and held at 500* it poured and was a bit harder then linotype, i figure it was at least 15% tin.
the way i am going to test it is mix it 2-1 with lead check the bhn then water drop it and re-test the bhn it will at least tell me if it has antimony in it, and i will only have to melt a small amount.

Could also be one of the cerro alloys (bismuth, I think, I could be wrrr - you know). Try melting it and use a thermometer to see what temp it melts at.
