Why, when talking about cast bullets, does everyone say Boolits or some variation of that spelling?

As someone who spent too many years studying English and Grammer, it makes me cringe every time I see it spelled that way.

I don't mean to be a prude, but why can't ch'all just say bullets? [smilie=1:

I don't know. I've probably been reloading and gunsmithing since before you were in diapers, so... :kidding:

Is that like taking a shower with a raincoat?

Nah. That's closer to what the definition of sailing is. Taking a cold shower fully clothed while tearing up sacks of $100 bills. [smilie=1:

Jacketed Bullets; refer to jacketed projectiles...Boolits; refer to cast lead projectiles. I'm a boolit maker........I don't know when/where it started but i'll go with it. I'm a sheep and i follow the herd, but i do stop at the edge of the cliff.

But see, now that's taking it too far. Bullets have been called bullets long before anyone thought of putting jackets on them. :)

I like Buckshot's name for jacketed bullets......FLGC...= Full Length Gas Check.

A lot of people refer to loaded cartridges as bullets and the actual bullet as "bullet tips". Boolits is the convention use here so go with the flow.

The word "bullet" comes from the Middle French word "boullette," which is the diminutive of the word "boule," which means "ball."

So bullet shooters have little balls.

Put it this way:

If you spell it Boolit, All the cool kids will like you and you will get a date for the prom.
If you spell it Bullet, All the jocks will beat you up.
Personally I like boolit. It separates me from the know nothings.
I feel accepted to the brotherhood.
It's like a secret handshake.
(I can't tell you know more, It's top secret)

For me, it wasn't untill I made crappy castings, fixed them, then found them sized too small, fixed that, then wrapped in paper, too small, had my dies modified, wrapped them in the correct direction, then found the size and repeated it, that I started to become comfortable with Boolitt.
It is part of a process. I cringed, at Boolit. I did not feel like I belonged. Here I was, on a forum with folks I respected. They used Boolit with impunity. I was still a prospect, awaiting initiation. I am now almost a yearling.
Boolit.
Boolit.
I can do it.
I did it.
I can help others do it.
Thanks guys, you all helped me in large ways.

Have you added your years onto the topic regarding experience? The more, the merrier!
By the way, Felix did the original testing for the Brown Bess musket! He ain't no pilgrim!

That's just plain.... stupid and misleading. A cartridge is a cartridge and a bullet is a bullet. I dig the whole idea of bullet vs boolit though!

Damn how come no one told me before that casting could get me a prom date [smilie=b: Then maybe I wouldn't have had to stay home playing with my balls on prom night... or wait a minute, hey we don't have prom in Denmark... okay then, is all gooood [smilie=s:

The spelling of Boolit makes it easier for a search engine to locate us and harder for the non-cognizant to find us. Gianni

A boolit is made by Yours Truly. It's just a projectile if made by anybody else.

took me a while to get used to 'boolit'.

but now I am very glad, for it allows me to check in during work where all those "nasty black words" are blocked by the employer.

Omega47--You spent a lot of time studying grammer? Was that on your mom or your dad's side?
And boolit bothers you?

Omega47, Boolits is like a key to this asylum and all the imates here accept it. [smilie=1:
