Does anyone have some of the Lyman 140 gr. 6.5 boolits cast and would be able to tell me the length of them? The Greenhill formula says my 6.5 tcu only wants boolits of 1.15" or less.
Thanks in advance. Tom

1.175", but it's a real old single cavity.

I was thinking that this mold might be the answer, but maybe not. Geuss this will be a jacketed shooter.
I need to pay better attention, .025 is pretty close.

What twist do you have?

For the Greenhill to be wrong wouldn't be the most shocking thing I've read on these pages.

It has a 1:9.5 twist

Rapine made a 150gr 6.5 mold, just happened to have one of the bullets here, it's 1.099". Weighs 145.6grs complete with gas check and cast in the somewhat unknown alloy I was using (WW and some Sn Sb added) I don't know if CH4D continued the Rapine line or not, think I'll dash over and check that out. Yep they sure did, go to the home page, click on bullets and you'll see Rapine molds, the pictures show the bullet as a spitzer, but when mine came from Rapine, it was a flatnose. Better ask. I don't know about CH4D's quality when it comes to molds, though I've had good luck with their dies. The mold I got from Rapine was casting good bullets right out of the box once I cast a dozen or so duds to warm it up. http://www.ch4d.com/

Tommag,

I don't know if you've searched the site for 6.5x55, but there's lots of info (I know you have 6.5TCU - wait a sec).

Most of the 6.5x55 discussion involves loads up to 1600fps, seems the faster 1:7.5/7.8 twist revs up the slug pretty bad to the point that accuracy suffers. Some have used up to 175 gr slugs & still been only able to get accuracy up to 1600 fps.

It would seem to me that the 9.5 twist would be a blessing & should be about to exceed the 1600 limit without a problem. The Hornady 4th edition that I have has the 6.5TCU loads that go up to 1850/1950 fps with jacketed loads with some of those being 4895 powder. With the ability to hit faster speeds with less powder (to a point) like cast does, I'd be darned if I wouldn't try it.

PM me I may have some things you need.
