I remember the Heckler & Koch (HK-4 or something) was a small semi-automatic handgun that could be easily changed to 4 different calibers. They were .22LR, .25ACP, 32ACP, and .380ACP. The slide stayed the same. The barrels, recoil springs, and magazines changed. It was about the same size as a Walther PP or PPK and looked similar, too. It was back in the 1970's or so. All this is from memory, so accuracy is not guaranteed.

Thompson Center use to make the TCR 87, a single shot rifle, just change barrels like the Contender in order to change calibers. I have one with a 45/70 barrel and have been looking for barrels for years. Can't find any.

You can buy drop-in replacement barrels in different calibers for several of the hooked breech, sidelock muzzleloaders (e.g. TC Hawken, Lyman Great Plains).

I have an old Remington Model 81 Woodsmaster. This model has a handy take- down feature. I suspect it might be possible to assemble it with a barrel set in a different caliber from another Model 81 (provided the bolt head dimensions were the same), although I have never tried it.

NEF, but you have to send the frame to them for barrel fitting. But afterwards you have a switch barrel single shot.

There was a break-open very similar to the Contender. I forget its name. The Merrill/XL is another. The MOA Maximum is a switch-barrel once the barrels have been fitted. The 1911 type has limited caliber interchangeability by swapping barrels and maybe slides and magazines.

The Savage 110 series is easy. You can even change bolt heads in minutes.

The Rossi is listed under the name BrazTech. Then there's the HandiRifle and I believe the Lone Eagle was a switch barrel.

Greybeard's Forum seems to have the most talk about HandiRifles. According to what I read there, many people were swapping barrels around like Contender barrels and fitting them to their action themselves, using beer cans as shims. Never tried it.

I don't know about aluminum shims, but some have shimmed their barrels..and done a much better job than Remington. Remington owns H&R now and all the barrel fitting (or lack thereof) is done at the Remington, Illion, NY plant.

Blasers are a switch barrel rifle also,, very high dollar and very versatile.

Some semi-auto pistols, such as the Sigs, can be used with .40S&W, .357Sig, and 9mm.
The only changes are the barrels, recoil springs, and magazines.

The T/C Encore is similar to a Contender but can handle higher pressure cartridges.

Blazers are very easy to change, as well. Literally a drop in. In a bolt action. Price in the tens of thousands of dollars, though, I think. I've only seen one, at the range, and the owner showed me how the barrels change. About as close to magic as I've ever seen.

McGowan Barrels is gearing up to produce rifles in the very near future. I was shown one of thier actions, with a switch barrel system. Bolt action, on a round Remington type receiver, and a controlled round feed set up. They report very good accuracy after a change out.

+1 for the Savage. I swap one back and forth between .30-06 and 7x57,
no need to change bolt heads for that swap. Works great.
