Don't know where to put this, but having many here as dear friends, just had to get this off my heart.

Curly, my Yorkie, who was 15 years old, suffered a stroke, and I had to have him put down.

Little guy helped me through many rough times, unconditional love. All you, who have these special friends know of what I speak.

I am so sorry for your loss - They are never with us long enough - I suspect he will be there waiting for you when you get there. I hope so. In the mean time, May the Good Lord ease your suffering and may His presence be felt by you.

I am extremely sorry for your loss. Only someone that has suffered a loss like this can truly understand how you feel. Loosing a dear friend a K9 companion is like loosing a family member and sometimes more. I know this may sound strange but I have found that replacing your loved one with another helps with the loss. Over the last 50 years I have had to put down a number of German Shepherds that I have loved with all my heart. It hurts immensely and you question your judgement for putting them down. Yet you know that putting them down ends their suffering and is the only humane thing to do. I hope that you will try to concentrate only on the good times you have had with your friend over the years. God Bless You for having given a good life to a good animal.

My condolences, friend. I just went through the same thing with my 14 y/o border collie. It truly breaks your heart. I do believe that our fur kids will be there to greet us when our time comes. Take heart knowing that God gave us dominion over animals and you actually gave him a gift that we cannot give to fellow humans. Curly's suffering is no more, and he is happier than ever now in God's hands.

My condolences for your loss. Those little " ornamental" dogs tug your heart even more than the big ones, sometimes. My wife's deer head Chihuahua is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever known. She definitely runs things- the three big mutts that live outdoors give her space. It's always hard to lose a friend.

Why Dogs Never Die… This Guy Completely Nails It.

Bryce Harper

Some of you, particularly those who think they have recently lost a dog to “death”, don’t really understand this. I’ve had no desire to explain, but won’t be around forever and must.

Dogs never die. They don’t know how to. They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt. Of course they don’t die. If they did they would not want to always go for a walk, even long after their old bones say:” No, no, not a good idea. Let’s not go for a walk.” Nope, dogs always want to go for a walk. They might get one step before their aging tendons collapse them into a heap on the floor, but that’s what dogs are. They walk.

It’s not that they dislike your company. On the contrary, a walk with you is all there is. Their boss, and the cacaphonic symphony of odor that the world is. Cat poop, another dog’s mark, a rotting chicken bone ( exultation), and you. That’s what makes their world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place.

However, dogs get very very sleepy. That’s the thing, you see. They don’t teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks, gluons, and Keynesian economics. They know so much they forget that dogs never die. It’s a shame, really. Dogs have so much to offer and people just talk a lot.

When you think your dog has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart. And by the way, it is wagging it’s tail madly, you see, and that’s why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a happy dog wagging its tail in their chest. Ouch! Wap wap wap wap wap, that hurts. But they only wag when they wake up. That’s when they say: “Thanks Boss! Thanks for a warm place to sleep and always next to your heart, the best place.”

When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and that’s why, of course, you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After a while they sleep more. (remember, a dog while is not a human while. You take your dog for walk, it’s a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and it’s a week, well one of your days, but a week, really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks.)

Anyway, like I was saying, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer naps, and you would too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life, and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and don’t want to go outside to pee when it is raining but do anyway, because you are a good dog. So understand, after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer.

But don’t get fooled. They are not “dead.” There’s no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart, and they will wake up, usually when you’re not expecting it. It’s just who they are.

I feel sorry for people who don’t have dogs sleeping in their heart. You’ve missed so much. Excuse me, I have to go cry now.

This is so true, and this guy really captured it perfectly. SHARE this with your dog-loving friends

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure you gave Curly a great life and he helped you. I have a 13 year old, and the one I had before him was 17 when she had to be put down. It's never easy to lose a great friend. Hopefully you will find another great friend, soon.

Sorry to read this. Hate to read these actually. But part of life is death and none of us make it “out” alive.

I dread the day. Have experienced it it’s never fun and the current is expected to be the worst. My first “lap dog” 19# Lahasa and my first female. She has me wrapped around her lil paw. She is 11 now hoping for many more but know it’s coming.

The joys they bring are priceless.

May god bless.

I totally understand your pain.

I had a black lab that was the sweetest and most loyal dog ever. At 14, I had to take him to the vet and have him put down as his hips gave out and he couldn't walk. I swore I would never get another dog again because the pain was nearly unbearable.

We had another dog named Rowdy that is a lab/great dane mix who was my daughter's dog. When her husband got orders to Japan a few years ago, she begged me to take him in as no one else could. I reluctantly agreed.

He is now 13 and struggling to get up and getting worse every day. I've got him on CBD oil, hip and joint supplements, and the best dog food.

It breaks my heart to see him deteriorating and I know the day is coming soon when I will have to have him put down. It will absolutely break my heart and I'll probably have to take time off of work to deal with the pain. Just an absolutely amazing dog and loved by everyone that meets him.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have two, and I fear the day that happens to them. They have been great companions and they definitely have a very distinct and unique personality just like people. They are family. A person once asked me if I talked to my dogs? They thought that was crazy. My response..."Well...what am I supposed to do when they ask me questions....just ignore them? That would be rude..." Dogs never lie about love....(They will lie about who fed them last).

Dog's give unconditional and devoted love and they ask for so little in return. Here's something I wrote about my dog for a song writing class I took shortly after retirement.

Who loves you more, your dog or your Bride?
Here's a little test, take them both for a ride.
Twenty to thirty minutes around town should do.
Then open the trunk and see which one still loves you!

RIP Curly...trusted friend...

It sure is tough loosing a faithful friend. I plan to always have a dog as long as I'm able to see after one, I've out lived a bunch of them, and they all hold a different place in my hart
having different personalities. You'll know when it's time to have a new friend. God bless you.

Very sorry for your loss as well. I know just how you feel as I lost my beloved Black Lab one week ago today. She was my close friend and although shocking as she was in reasonably good health at almost 13 she retrieved a tennis ball and then failed to pursue the second toss, laid down and quietly died. At least she didn't spiral down slowly with me having to eventually make a decision to put her down.

I also want to give my heart felt condolences to all who have lost their friends.

I was setting in my front porch playing a guitar, (I try to play and practice at least once every day,) and Curly always came set and watched. He was like my shadow. This day he came and stopped, barked at me a couple times, and then stated to walk towards me and fell over. He could not get up, as he left side was paralyzed. And you know the rest.

15 years old, and the vet lady kindly said, "Curly was ready to go."

Again thank all of you, and my heart and best wishes are with you all. It is good to have a place to get things talked out.

Sorry to hear of your lost, I know how it is for all the ones that I lost the one I had the longest was just over 16 years old. He was a coydog ,like his brother I lost before him that was 1 month short of 12 years old was due to cancer. I had a vet ask me that they say that you have one really good dog in your life. I told him out of all the dogs I had in my life there was only one that way not good .He was one my dad gave away for me when I was in the navy and called from Portsmouth ,England. All the others was there for me like I was for them ,like you are. hang in there , Curly will always live in your heart and never fade away .Like all of my do. I have another coydog now he is the same with me like my others was.

Sorry to hear of any pets passing on, although the time comes. We got a new cat after our last one got tounge cancer and had to be euthanized. She got a uterine infection but as we had to have her spayed anyway the infected parts were removed today. I'm looking forward to her getting better and not going into heat when a male cat walks outside.

I hope you find a puppy to try to fill the void in your heart.

I am very sorry to hear that. They are truly more family to us than a lot of people are.
My baby girl Mora is only just turning 3 and the thought of ever losing her keeps me up at night sometimes. The Good Lord willing, she has many years left with us but I still can hardly bear to think of it.
Some days I think we hardly deserve the love they give us.

I hurt worse from loosing a dog than i do some friends
This one always greeted me upon returning from the woods and as soon as the deer was cleaned was waiting for the bone

he has gone on as well to be replaced by another German Shepherd. I think up to 6 now. one at a time . Each one different in traits and personalities

My dad, who lost his Gordon Setter to a car on the highway a week ago, is now asking me to help him find a replacement.

He's 77 and needs a furry companion to keep him company.

I don't want him to get another dog, as I'm sure I'll be the one to adopt it when he passes in a few years, and I'm done getting my heart broken by a good dog.

But, I acknowledge the incredible value of a good dog for a lonely old man, so I will be helping him find another companion.
