With the help of some fellow forum members I will soon have some wheelweight alloy on hand. Some of you may remember I am new to casting and will be casting for my 44 mags and my S&W 500's.
Since I already own a few hundred pounds of Lyman#2 I have a question.
Would it be ok to mix 50/50 wheelweight alloy and lyman #2 for use in my 44's? I plan on casting slugs of about 250 grains.

It would be OK but straight WW is plenty hard enough for shooting 44 or SW 500.I cast for the SW 500 also and have shot 1000's of cast WW thru my 500's with NO problems.
What size bullets are you casting for the 500?

I have not purchased any molds yet. Now that I have the alloy my quest for the equipment starts. I plan on purchasing the Star sizer and Waage furnance. The 44's are both new model S&W 629's and the 500's are the 4 in and the 6 1/2 in PC Models. Suggestions are appreciated. I am planning on bullet wieghts of 400-440 for the 500's.

Mixing the alloy is just fine. Just mix a bunch of it because if it shoots real good you will want enough to last you. Personally, I would shoot straight WW's and save the no. 2 for something else. If you have no use for it, just toss it in a bunch of WW metal to get rid of it and increase the amount of metal. No harm done.
