30 Carbine 600 rnd sealed spam can

I got a sealed 600 round spam can of LC 52 ammo with the carbine I inherited. The question is do I open the can & shoot it or sale it?

I would. And then I'd reload the empties and shoot them again! Right now Midway is selling sealed cans of S. Korean-made .30 Carbine.

Some Chinese Carbine ammo is Berdan primed. It is marked LC 52 but the letter spacing is different than Lake City ammo, from what I remember. Some of the Chinese ammo is supposed to be corrosive.

The ChiCom ammo is also Berdan primed. So is the French.

When I got the ammo an open can also came with it. All of it American made ammo. Thanks for the replies.

Then my vote would be shoot it! Commercial 30 Carbine is .30 to .40 per round. GI is probably a little more, especially if the ammo is in stripper clips and bandolier. The GI Carbine ammo is still very desirable and the brass is reloadable and doesn’t have crimped primers.

If you have extra, the once fired brass will probably sell for $15 per 100.

Hurry up and shoot it before it turns 70! Its part of the gift, enjoy it. Not many guns are as fun as an M1 Carbine; we like pics.

If you do decide to shoot it, I would treat it as corrosive and clean the dickens out of your carbine.

If I recall correctly, US .30 carbine ammo was always non-corrosive.

Okay, time to reminiscence a bit.........waaayyyyy back in the very early sixties, surplus carbines were being offered for the princely sum of $25.00 plus $2.00 shipping. My two cousins each received a carbine from their dad (my uncle) along with FIVE sealed cans of surplus ammo. I remember asking why he bought so much and the reply was "Because it's cheaper than .22's". And it was!

None of us ever dreamed that both the guns and ammo would achieve "collector" status. They both still had the guns the last time I saw them, but I'm sure the ammo got shot up quickly.

Shoot the ammo. It's not getting any younger and you might as well enjoy it!
