This is a recent find. This is a 30-30 Cal Winchester Model 94. It is marked Nickel Steel on the Barrel. No saddle ring. Per the serial number it was made in 1929.
Excellent condition with blueing at 90 % or better and the wood is also in excellent condidtion. I wonder what the value of this old shooter would be?

I see early 94 Winnys on Gunbroker going for $800 and up in that condition. Sounds like a keeper to me to give to a son or grandson down the way AFTER I have shot half a ton of Boolits through it to be sure it is a straight shooter... Thats what I tell my wife anyway as she rolls here eyes and walks away..
Crash,
My book lists a 90% Model 1894 in 30WCF with a 24 or 26 in barrel at $1,350.00. According to my book, from 1894 through 1929 they were 1894s. Post 1929, they were referred to as Model 94s.
Now, if your barrel is 20 inches, you may have an Eastern Carbine, since it has no saddle ring. Manufactured from the late '20s through the early '30s. It has a long forearm and an early style post front sight. It books for $1,200.00. I threw that in there, because you mentioned it didn't have a saddle ring, so I was thinking carbine.
Just remember, these prices are based on accurate grading condition. Condition is everything. These prices are generalities and sometimes prices vary greatly from the book based on geographical regions etc. At the end of the day, a given piece is only worth what you can get someone else to pay for it :-D.
Hope that helps you,
Keith

Keith,
Actually the upper tang as well as the barrels were changed to "Model 94" around 1925-1926. This about the same time that the "NICKEL STEEL" big lettering is on the left side of the barrel and just next to the caliber designation. All 4 of my different caliber 1926-1927 SRC's have the Model 94 on both the tang and the barrel. Renneberg's book "The Winchester Model 94 - The First 100 Years" illustrates this nicely.
