I want to shoot lead from my Ruger Super Redhawk 454 Casull. .452" bullets lead badly near the chamber, but the few .454" I've used in it don't lead at all.

I'd like to have a mold that drops boolits in the 275-300 gr. range with a WW alloy. I'll push them in the 1200-1500 fps range.

Any suggestons?

Thanks,
Doug

Many--maybe most--Lyman and RCBS molds cast boolits at or near .452", which has become a sort of "standard" for the 45 ACP and now the 45 Colt and the "upgrades" of the 45 Colt--like the 454 Casull. I could ask about your Casull's throat and groove dimensions--but you already indicate what works and what doesn't--so never mind.

Unless you can find some older Lyman or Lachmiller molds specifically listed as casting .454" boolits, the smart money today would be to have NEI or Mountain Molds make up a mold to the specs you want. SAECO molds might be another option, but I have no experience with them--and can't say what diameters their nominal 45 handgun molds cast at.

Hope this helps.

Early this year I got one of the Lee 6 cylender molds for the 45 WFN 300gn. In straight WW at between 625 to 650F they drop from it at .455". I have no clue if its a trend for this design or if I just got lucky.
My most consistantly accurate mold for the 454 and 45 colt has for a good long time been the Saeco 300 Keith but so far the Lee is proving to be equal in accuracy.

I don't have any as cast but my Lee 2 cav 300 gr WFN drops bigger than .453 in WW which is what I size to.
