Sisk j-words, one still sealed

Amongst a pile of other stuff, some of which will be up here for sale shortly, I recently inherited 3 boxes of Sisk j-words, one of which is still sealed. Apparently these were the cream of the crop back in the day, but I can't find much on them. Anything cool to know about these things? The fact that one is still sealed is pretty neat, but I don't know if they have any real collector value.

If they aren't worth much to a collector compared to new stuff, I'd load & shoot 'em.
Then save the empty box for the novelty of it.

They do have collector value, especially as full boxes. It's a field of collecting that is just beginning to gain popularity.
At one time Sisk was a premier maker of benchrest boolits. This would be in the mid 1950's and earlier. The Niedner name is that of a primer rifle builder in southwest Michigan in the 1930's and 40's.

I had some 22 Sisk solid copper boolits that I shot out of my 220 Rocket at 4200+fps. Those babies would drill straight through 1/2" steel plate like nobodies business.

One tidbit I can recall from my reading is that every single bullet was swaged on a hand press. I have several boxes, some unopened, of bullets in varying weights made specifically for the Lovell wildcat.

Yes, even empty boxes are bringing collector prices on Gunbroker now. When I was buying them 10-15 years ago, in the early days of my Lovell fixation, an unopened box might auction off for $20. Now I see as much as $50. Sisk bullets and G&H Lovell brass may be two of the best investments I ever made.

I have some boxes of 17cal 30 gr Sisk bullets, that I got when I stopped by the Iowa Park place of Sisk bullets. Sis lived in WF town

They were top of the line when I started loading.
I shot Sisk 17 cal bullets in my P.O. Ackley barreled 17-222....dale

There was an interesting obituary for Ralph Sisk in either HANDLOADER or RIFLE magazine, written up by then-editor Neal Knox who knew Sisk well. I think this was in the early '70s. As someone already mentioned, the bullets were made by hand, one at a time. I've used Sisk bullets that came with a low-wall .17 Hornet, but it's been a long time. How Sisk bullets would compare in uniformity and accuracy with modern varmint bullets, I can only speculate, but I think they might do well.

Ralph Sisk told Neal Knox that if he had known how successful his bullet business would become, he would have mechanized his operation to increase production.

One of my many back burner projects has been to do a direct comparison using one of my Lovells. Over the years I've collected several partial boxes of various weights, so I won't be consuming "collectible" items. Someday. . . . . .
