Rerun? This idea has been floated twice and died early in pregnancy both times. I want one if it ever happens.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Lee didn't want to cut em that small- and that alone prices a lot of people out of the market. think they'd give it a run?

That's right, Lee wouldn't do it. We could go with NEI but it'd cost more money.

Got a reply back from Old West. His response was:

James
I have a 70 grain gas check .22 deign already in fact am shipping one out today. I usually make this in a three cavity mould on double cavity blocks. $95.00. Blocks take RCBS or Lee commercial handles ($18) and I usually use flat rate shipping at $10.50

I asked him if he could send me a picture of the mould cavity. This may save us some time on a Group Buy.

Lee said they didn't want to do anything smaller than 270cal.

Would this stabilise in 12" and 14 1/2" twists?

..............Maybe in the 12". No way in the 14.5" . My Savage 223 is a 12" twist and it will stabilize a 69gr.

I think the 70 grain would be a better choice for me. Lets get a Honcho and get this one going! The last 22 thread has been going on way to long with no result.

MY CZ with a 12 twist will just stabilize the Speer jacketed 70RN, but takes 2900 fps to do so. The lead boolit is going to be longer than the jacket one, length is your enemy, not weight.

Also, remember this: Lead all the way to the outside of the boolit will LESSEN the twist requirement, when boolit versus bullet are the same lengths. For example, thick-based jacketed bullets will never shoot as good as thin-based jacked bullets with marginal twists. However, more jacket material up near the nose is not as significant as down near the base. Some versions take this to advantage to increase the bearing surface while keeping the center of gravity towards the base. Likewise, keeping lube groove(s) more towards the nose keeps things in check for the boolit design when twist is critical. ... felix

I've had a couple of pm's about the Old West 70 grain, so I shot an email off to Bernie. I'm checking on the exact nose shape, number of lube grooves, overall length, and bearing surface length. To me the bullet looks like a round nose, but if it is a flat point, I also asked the size of the meplat.

I have to say that it has been wonderful dealing with Bernie through email. He replies very quickly and is extremely professional and helpful. I've seen a couple of his brass moulds in a few different posts and his workmanship seems to be top notch.

Plus one for me.

Bernie has been great to work with.
Have one of his 2 cavity molds cut with 3 cavity's.
A 50Gr. and two 60Gr. 22's.

Cast real good.
Haven't had time to shoot yet.

DAFzipper,

If you're wanting the 70 grain Old West mould, all you have to do is contact Bernie. His website is here: http://www.oldwestbulletmoulds.com/ Use the allisonmonument email address. Let him know you're interested in the 70 grain .22 cal bullet mould that he has been in correspondence with James Kibbe about. He'll get one out for you in no time!

Sent in my order to Old West Bullet Moulds. I'll update when it comes in. He said 3 to 4 weeks. Way better than the Lee 7-12 months! I'm in the BD 45 group buy and we are approaching the 8 month mark!

Ha,ha... don't worry brothers. I won't let the old thread die cause I'm on a mission now to make my marlette idea work in some capacity.

Darn nice mold from Bernie. I wish I would have known that before I ordered the NEI I have. I'm scared to cast with it, eventhough it maybe a fine mold. Think I'm gonna put it on feabay.

How does the brass mold hold up over time?
