Don’t know where to start but back in May I contracted Cellulitis some kind of way, was prescribed antibiotics and a few weeks later it went away (except for some scarring). So now, from knee on down to foot, been very painful around calf area and shin, swollen with a slight red hue. So the doctor sees that uric acid is elevated and thought I had gout a month ago, went back yesterday and she put me on fluid pills. I drive 65 miles one way to work and same coming home (2 hours almost each way depending on traffic). Now I fear it may be a blood clot? Going to get an ultrasound in about 10 days. Just was wondering if anybody experienced something similar?

First thing I thought of was blood clot.

Deep Vein Thrombosis:
Signs and Symptoms

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the deep veins of your body, usually in your legs, but sometimes in your arm. The signs and symptoms of a DVT include:

Swelling, usually in one leg (or arm)
Leg pain or tenderness often described as a cramp or Charley horse
Reddish or bluish skin discoloration
Leg (or arm) warm to touch

These symptoms of a blood clot may feel similar to a pulled muscle or a “Charley horse,” but may differ in that the leg (or arm) may be swollen, slightly discolored, and warm.

Contact your doctor as soon as you can if you have any of these symptoms, because you may need treatment right away.

Make sure you wear compression stockings it will help a lot.

Thanks. Almost feels like bursitis or frost bite. Constantly aches. Think I'm gonna step up the ultrasound/sonogram (whatever they call it).

I would. I have that feeling all the time in my legs. Bad back surgery and diabetes has not been kind to my legs. Then having Factor V liden does not make things any better.

if you or your doctor even suspect a blood clot - you need to have it checked PRONTO.

A couple of weeks ago Was at my Podiatristfor a check up. I'm diabetic, have neuropathy in both lower legs as well as edema in the left due to the removal of a vessel for my by-pass. I had edema in both lower legs that morning (later out found out it was due to the design of may new leg braces - they had adde a s trap at the ankle which was restricting blood flow enough to cause edema) - anyway, the Dr. was concerned about a blood clot and within an hour, I was at the testing lab having the test done which turned out negative.

A possible blood clot is nothing to put off having a test for - call your doctor and insist that they make arrangements to get tested ASAP. Good luck to you!

Don't wait , sounds just like what my daughter had going on three weeks ago . You're leg symptoms , then shortness of breath came on .
Called Dr. and and Dr. advised her to go to emergency room right now .
Blood clots in legs , that was the first leg symptoms...the shortness of breath was a blood clot had gone into her lungs . That could have been really serious...
Go and get the possibility of blood clots in your legs ruled out or treated ASAP .
Your leg condition sounds and just like hers , she thought it was fluid retention , female hormone swings ....everything except blood clots until the shortness of breath hit!
If it is blood clots they can treat it before it causes a bigger problem .
Good luck , prayers sent .

I have had 2 pulmonary emboli from blood clots. Dont wait for that to happen to you. Clots could also go to brain(stroke) or heart(heart attack). Compression stockings are helpful but you need to find out the cause of the swelling and redness quickly. I have to take blood thinner for the rest of my life to prevent future blood clots.

Head for the nearest ER NOW, don't wait... if a clot hits your heart you can die! I had the same symptoms, went in, clot from my groin to my mid calf... if I had waited doc said it could have killed me.

Having seen those same symptoms in my late father in law, and a couple older coworkers, I’m in agreement with MaryB- you need to get yourself to the ER. Yah, it’s a PITA to go to a hospital, but it’s a worthwhile PITA if it could mean saving your life. At worst, you escalate the situation and find out it’s nothing life threatening. But you, sir, have some classic signs of a blood clot. Get it checked out.

So agree with going to the ER. It’s nothing to play with.

I’m usually not judge mental , but how an MD mistook a probable text book description of a dvt/ blood clot in the most likely place (calf) for gout (Uric acid crystals in joints) is beyond my understanding and then scheduled an ultrasound two weeks out to rule out a dvt, which is an emergency because they can cause a pulmonary embolism......was the medical degree obtained from an online college in the United Emirates? Please have this checked out promptly by another physician...!

Ok, results in. Turns out that there are no clots (whew). Since I had cellulitis back in May in right lower leg, something happened and can't pinpoint it. I thought it might be "small car syndrome" but hurts no matter what I drive. Guess I'll just invest in CBD oil. Thanks for everyone's input/concern.

Thank you! Next up is an MRI from knee down. Somethings gotta give. Pay through the wazoo for health insurance and can't get any answers.

You get a strong pulse in your ankle? If not, maybe a blocked artery.

They looked at veins on ultrasound and flow was good going back to heart so flow in arteries must be good.

I think I would find a different doctor.

Going the orthopedic route.

> cellulitis

That plus swelling often means lymphedema; lymphatic fluid puddles in your lower legs because the lymph nodes aren't doing their job pumping it back up any more.

Untreated, your leg (usually it's just one) will swell until the skin starts to split.

I went to the doctor three years ago when the pain got out of hand, got passed around for several specialist consults, and the last specialist just shook his head and said there was nothing he could do. I pretty much gave up in disgust. What I didn't know until a couple of months ago was that one of them had written that he had explained all about lymphedema to me, so the others, reading his report, didn't bring it up.

The annoying thing was, I didn't start getting copies of consults and test reports until shortly after all that, and never thought to go back and get the older ones. Some of those consults, I'm pretty sure the office just block-copied boilerplate from one file to another; results for tests they never ran, things I never said, etc. Somewhere there's a line between incompetence and malpractice, and they're dancing on it...

Anyway, it turns out that A) nobody knows what causes lymphedema and B) there's nothing much they can do about it. There's only palliative treatment; basically just wrapping the leg in Ace bandages, though there are also "lymphedema pumps" like G-suit pants that force some circulation if it's really bad.

I got sent to what was supposed to be a high-end, highly-rated specialist clinic. They seemed to be set up for dealing with women who have had breast cancer (the radiation treatment knocks out the lymph nodes in their upper bodies) and what I would call "end of life care".

Compression stockings and elastic bandages won't cure lymphedema, but they'll at least keep your leg from leaking fluids from open sores. And that's about as good as it gets with "modern medicine."

Thanks TRX for the insight/advice! Tomorrow going for MRI on knee and lower leg (waited long enough). Hoping that something will show. Pain is almost unbearable but I guess I’ve gotten used to most of it. Will update soon.

Sorry guys..last post-TMI

Basically right knee “disassembled” itself some kind of way, have a couple of tears, cyst and fluid. Have no idea what did this.
