DW708 burned out motor

I have A 12 DeWalt inch sliding miter saw and a non sliding 12 in saw. Served me in at least 50 some house builds since I got them in the 90's and they both smoked the motors in the last 12 months. I only use them in shop projects and looked about replacing motors and will spend almost more than can be justified in their age. They are type 3 and parts are getting scarce for those. Thinking of buying a Lowes brand 10 inch sliding miter saw to replace them. Any ideas?

Dewalt is a step above anything else.... I've had a cheap delta that was never returned by 'friend'. Don't loan tools.
I've had an early 10" Kobalt that was crap. Just say'n. I'd almost go to Harbor Freight if you are looking at the Lowes. They would be about on par.
I think I'd be looking at a craigslist used Dewalt.... you Can find them. Get at HF price or just buy a new Dewalt.

I had a Harbor Freight 10" Sliding power miter.
While the motor was good enough for handyman projects, the sliding mechanism wasn't.
I had to lock the slider if I wanted any repeatably...I suspect any of the lower grade china slider saws are the same.

2 years ago, at a Garage sale, I stumbled onto a vintage Makita (with a cast iron frame) 10" power miter ($40) ...and OMG, what a wonder saw, compared to the lower grade saws.

I have the lower priced ($350 purchased 2 years ago) sliding dual compound 10" Makita and love it. The more expensive one has better clearance behind it, more complicated rails. No real advantage to 12" saws on conventional 4X lumber.

I also have the Harbor Freight 10" and like Jon said the rails aren't smooth. OK for rough framing but keep your fingers a few inches further back. I think my dad paid $89 for it. LOL

I have a 18 volt 7 inch Makita sliding miter saw that was used for lofts or on scaffolding work. I like makita and maybe I should relook at them. I got tunnel vision with the de walts!

DeWalt used to be top of the line but has slipped to the middle of the pack.

We use Makita tools all day everyday they stand up to full time use. So that's what I would buy.

Think there is a website called "replacementparts.com" They basically sell original oem parts from just about any name manufacturer. I have a couple sears pad sanders and they had the replacement discs that the sanding disks attach to. Try the address or google it. Hope this helps. Frank
