Hi Guys, A friend of mine brought me a bunch of bullets that look to be all remington, most of them are 30 cal, I sorted them by weight and nose profile and came up with a couple that looked like they might work in the 30-30.
The two in question are both 170gn, one is a round nose and the other is a JHP.
I took a pic of them next to a factory Rem JSP. The round nose bullet looks almost identical to the factory load.
What do you guys think, would either or both of these be useful and safe for a Win94 30-30?

I would think either could be used in .30-30.

Although I have my doubts that you can drive it fast enough to expand the hollow point at any distance. If it were me, and it's not, I would use the soft nose in 30-30, and trade off the hollow points.

I would measure the diameters, the old .32 WS Remington 170 gr look like the cal..30 ones....308 vs .321.

That hollow point is a Remington corelokt HP made for 30-30, part number B22780. Discontinued and with a reputation for good penetration on large deer or larger than deer sized game. Provided it's .308 diameter of course.

If they are .308" diameter they both appear to be bullets for the 30-30. They should work well.

I've only had two .30-30 lever actions, and they were both very accommodating to about anything.
Neither one was a finicky eater.

I absolutely would use either or both on deer. Trainloads have been killed with those very bullets. They are especially deadly in .308 and .30-06 as well.

Try both of them on a rib cage! They look like useful 30-30 bullets to me!

I loaded 35 and 36 gns of LeverRevolution with the 170 Corelokt soft points seated to 2.564" in Fed cases with Win LR primers. 35 gns gave 2255fps from a 20" Win 94 30-30, some of the 36gn loads had slightly cratered primers, so I'll stick with 35gns as a max. Hodgdon's lists 36.3gns as max with a 170 Sierra.
My eyes are getting old, but I squinted real hard at the Buckhorn open sights and shot this group. I drifted the front sight a little to the left, shot a couple more to center it up and called it good.

I have a Winchester Model 94AE in 30-30 and I would definitely load both of those styles for mine and use either for dear. I'd like a friend like him! :D
