16-1 38 wadcutters

Has anyone used 16-1 alloy for 38 wadcutters? I’d like to powdercoat some for light plinking loads.

For low vel wc, you can get by with 25-1 & PC.

If you are coating with PC, you should be able to get away with pure soft lead :Fire:

When I cast for muzzle loader, I will add 0.5% tin to my pure lead, mostly for long term corrosion resistance and it casts a little better. That's probably what I'd use for 38 spl WC, if I didn't have a large supply of soft range scrap, which is about 9 BHN.

I used 40-1 alloy just get good fill out and better quality Was.

16:1 is 6% tin and a BHn of about 11. That's pretty hard and very expensive in terms of tin for 38 WC's

I to use 40 to 1 for wad cutters sure would save you a lot on tin.The softer alloy shoots much better than anything harder.

I have gotten the best accuracy with the softer wadcutters also. 40 or 50-1 or even the soft swaged hollow based wadcutters. BUt then my standard wadcutter load is 2.7 grns of the old bullseye a very light target load.
