Greetings Gents,

242694

242695

Im wanting to clone the NEI/ SSK 44 Magnum 325, 265 qand 220 in HP your thoughts?

Then apply the same bore riding design to 45 caliber and 41 caliber. All will be offerred with pins roughly half the depth of whats normally offerred to contend with bullet blow ups. Im having four sets of pins lathed shorter now to get ready for hunting season.

Once Mihec runs the 325 grn...the 265 and 220-235 can be cut from the same cherry. Same with the others.

Any comments welcome. Photo creds to Blammer.

That’s why I want to clone it sir. I had one but it dropped on the small side. This bullet with a shallow Penta HP should be a winner.

If this generates a little interest I spoke to Al about cloning it today.

I would be interested in getting these designs in a 44 cal 265gr, 41 cal 240-250gr, 45 (.451-452 diameter) 250gr and 280-300gr. I would also like to get it reproduced in 358 caliber as well in 200-210gr. I have some of the Penn bullets 295gr SSK 41 caliber bullets on the way to play with, but would like to have some in different weights.

They should bring enough interest. The older used NEI can go over $100 on fleabay.

45.2.1 agreed to do the design on this one. If someone can send me some samples or knows how to get the nose dimensions...it will speead up the process.

I should have some 41 295gr Penn SSK bullets if you want to get dimensions and go from there?

I measured the 41 cal 295 Penn bullets I got (I found out that they are from a custom H&G mold) and forwarded a drawing to bluejay75, if you want send me a few from each mold and I will measure them and draw them up and forward to bluejay75.

I will put it out there that if anyone will send me a few as cast bullets from an orginal NEI SSK mold I will measure them as best I can and will draw them up so a mold can be reproduced. I am personally looking for the SSK 357/358 200gr TC bullet to measure and get a mold cut. I will also be happy to forward a copy of the drawing if anyone would like to have a mold cut or send it to bluejay75 to do a group buy.

Wow, a 41 295! I shoot a 41 280 LBT and love it, a 295 would be really good in the Marlin.

They are cast very well and look great. I will post some pics when I get home.

I have all three. I have the 38 caliber SSK and 44 caliber SSK mold made by NEI. I also have the 41 caliber SSK bought from Penn bullets. I never messed with the 41 much, as Smith and Wesson revolver never handled bullets that heavy well. The 44 caliber SSK is a great bullet. Personally I think a longer front driving band would be better for a revolver, however, I think it was made to fit in a TC encore. Mine always shot as good as anything though. I was not as impressed with the 38 caliber SSK (195 grains with COWW). The Meplat is very small on the 38 caliber. As a hollow point, that might not matter. It always shot good in 357 magnums, but the one 357 maximum I tried it in did not like it. It may have been beyond what a plain base can handle. I also designed a 32 caliber SSK for 327 federal based more off the 44 magnum version. That one turned out to be a dud.

Anyway, I sent bluejay75 a drawing of my 44 caliber SSK bullet. He now has a drawing of the 41 caliber SSK. Do you also need a drawing of the 38 caliber SSK?

Any chance I could get a copy of the drawing for the 44 and 38 or a few as cast bullets of each. I am planning to get a mold cut for the 38 asap if I can get a drawing or bullets. (Would you by chance want to sell the 38 or 41 molds?)

I will post all three so everyone can see.

38 caliber SSK
244121

41 caliber Penn bullets SSK version
244122

44 caliber SSK
244123

Note that both the true SSK designs I have in 38 and 44 caliber both have a rounded meplat edge. The 38 is quite pronounced, and the actual flat part is only .18" or so. The 44 is still rounded, but much less so. The 41 caliber from Penn bullets does not have a rounded edge that I can see.

The ones listed in the GM Fowler post are already in the hands of AL at NOE. Once all the design work is done...Im sure there will be enough to get them going with either NOE or MP Molds.

Thanks for all of your work. Its great to see that one mans life work can be given new life with us!!!

I don't know if it's because the SSK molds were made for linotype or not, but both of mine cast small. The 44 cal version should drop at least .432" with COWW. Just note that those drawings I posted are exactly as my casted bullets drop from the mold (except the 41 cal was casted by Penn), not as large as I would like them.

We will start with the 432 either 265 or 285 unless someone steers the conversation towards the heavy weights

I have a SSK 44 310 PB. Which I've used in years past, down to the last few need to start casting some up again.
Also have a SSK 41 - 2 cavity, 1 @ 225 PB, 2 @ 275 PB
and a SSK 41 300 GC 4 cavity
The 4th SSK is a 358 200 GC.
I've not used the 41's or the 358 yet but that should change this summer.
The 44 and the 41's were purchased 1981 & 1982. I'll post pictures as they seem slightly different.2441872441882441892441902441912441922441 93

I would certainly be in the market for a SSK 44 in 270 -280 gr

BlueJay75- There was some interest a few years ago in a NOE group buy for the NEI-SSK-320gr 44 cal. In fact I had the mould and sent samples. Alas not enough interest at that time. If you get it going. I sure would go for these:
.430 324gr PB 4 cavity Aluminum
.430 265gr PB 4 cavity Aluminum
