Went through about 100 big bore handloads, finally got my 45-70 load down to 41gr of 3031, nice kick but not painful at 1600fps.

458 first handloads with RL7 using the same lee bullet, saw decent groups laddering up to 32gr 1450 fps.

The 50B had all sorts of issues. Brass was getting chewed up with vampire bites on near the upper half of the body and some on the rim of the mouth. Small burr created on the bottom of the rim where the stamping is done. Huge burn marks on the brass as you can see in the pic. Accuracy was pretty balls considering this was at 30yds i think the best i saw was a 2" group. Worked up to 30gr and felt really stout at 1550 fps, I couldn't and wouldn't go further. These were the 440 lee bullet sized at 501. Here are my thoughts on this load development. Also want to mention i used S&B LPP for both the beo and 458, i know magnum primers are recommended so will have to consider trying a pack of 100 to see the difference in results. Last thing i just thought of, what if i open up my sizer to 502-503, larger diameter could help right? Even sizing after casting then pc to get that diameter would work.

Bases of the bullet weren't all flat and perfect, ive read this can affect accuracy a lot
today i was reading about the bites and my research is pointing at the sharp back end of the lugs on the bolt scraping the top round in the mag as the previous case is being ejected
same with the burr on the bottom of the case, sharp burr on lug that need to be filed down to make smooth
Burn mark could be because unburned powder or not enough crimping

Ill see if i can correct these problems and retry 29.0 29.5 30.0 7 shot groups. If this doesn't group any better this time at 50yds then ill have to consider switching to RL7 then to a new mold if that doesn't cut it.
