I know it's not a lever, but...
In a local pawnshop I found a dirty Stevens 325C with
2 strips of electrical tape around the foreend & barrel.
The only reason I could think of would be to hold the
barreled action in the stock, yet the recoil lug screw
& barrel band screw were there - so I took a chance.
"this is ugly - how about $100 ?" ($50 off)
I got it for $110 OTD.
Under the grime the metal is 90+%, bore is shiny & crisp
stock dinged - no reason for tape:-D:-D
I now have a Williams FP-340 on the way ($40 off evilB)
Any quirks, kinks, fav. CB loads?
Thanks!

MNruss---I have a quirk about bolt action 30-30's. Certainly you can shoot pointed bullets in them. But if those bullets wind up in a lever gun--Murphys Law-- you have a problem. Most owners seem to have a lever 30-30 too---to me it's like a pet rattlesnake.

No problem there - pointed boolits aren't enough advantage
at moderate ranges anyway.

A friend has one,and one of the recoil lug screws..the rear I think..stripped out under recoil one day.The screw looked too short for the block it went into..only 'maybe' 3/16" of threads went into the block.Might be why the tape is there..maybe both threads are stripped? Pretty easy fix.
Is the wrist cracked? He found that it is common, and his blew apart under recoil.:(
Found a stock ,had to modify the inards a bit, but it's up and running now.
I'd say his is semi-accurate..but then,so are we. lol

As a hunter that sometimes stumbles, I keep a strip of electrical tape over the muzzle of any rifles/carbines that are likely to be grabbed to go. (Along with ammo in a butt cuff). This keeps out the mud daubers and spiders as well as the snow or mud should I blunder. therefore there is always a spare strip wrapped around the bbl as well.

I always do to Ray, it saved me one day in a bog in Newfoundland hunting Moose, I hit quicksand (or whatever they call that 4 foot deep goose sh*& up there and stuck the rifle and me in it, but the tape saved the bore, and I shot a B and C Woodland Caribou later that day.
Never hunt without it over the muzzle of the rifle.

Pawn shops are the best. I have only ever bought two guns new. One of them I regret buying. My most recent buy was this http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_92_186_191&products_id=13675 and after tax I put just about $170 down for it.:) It looks like the bands need to be be ajusted with them sliping off. Otherwise it looks like its new, was fired once then sold (with out cleaning). Waiting on a .58 cleaning brush before i go to town on it.

My Savage 340 (same gun, different cosmetics) in 30-30 shoots darn well with anything I've stuffed into it so far. To date, I've loaded the Lyman 311041, 311291, and 311466, all hard-cast and sized to .310 w/Hornaday GCs. I've got a Tasco 6X on it and, off sandbags, the 311466s loaded over 20.0 gr AA5744 (1835 fps) produce consistent MOA groups at 100yds. The 311041s using IMR 4198 (don't remember the exact charge but MV is slightly over 2000 fps) will stay under 1 1/2" at the same distance.
Mine was a trade-in of someone's "truck gun" and the dealer didn't feel like putting the time into cleaning it up for resale. Spent a couple weeks of spare time last winter refinishing the stock, replacing the cracked plastic butt plate with a recoil pad (I've got long arms), touching up the bluing, and repairing the magazines but it was definitely worth the effort.
So far as quirks...check your mags closely. I got (3) with mine and every one had the side panels pulling away from the mag body (very poor quality staking job) and, once that was fixed, the feed lips had to be adjusted for reliable feeding.

Thanks Krasch, that's just the kind of info I'm looking for.

Wish I could find one. Had one for sale on this site about a month or two ago but the guy got worried about shipping it out of state and backed out. I even had a FFL for him to send it to.
