Handgun or rifle?

I load 265 gr. RNFP PB over IMR 4227 or H110 for Marlin 1894 but I find regular primers work fine in the rifle.

I do not like Keith style boolits in my Marlin. The 429421 and similar are too long and have to be seated deep and even then the shoulder hangs up on the chamber mouth.

Can't comment on 2400 as I haven't used it. I know it is a popular powder for handgun but I am not sure how it performs in rifle.

That probably doesn't help a lot.

The only thing I can get close to with that is a RD 265Gr GC with 23.OGr W-296 and standard primer. This is in a Marlin. And to be honest the 23.OGr is Max so you should start at 22.0gr and work up from there to see how it shoots.

But as pointed out the Keith Style Boolits never functioned in my Marlin 1894 worth a darn. Give Ranch Dog a shot. :)

Most .44 loads with 2400 in manuals have been worked up with standard large pistol primers. Using magnum primers with these loads, or any of Keith's published loads can cause pressure spikes, and higher pressures than you want. I wouldn't use anything hotter than Winchester Large pistol primers with Alliant 2400. The new Speer manual states that clearly. Standard primers are best with this powder. Save the magnum primers for Win 296, H110, Lil'Gun, etc.

My 429244 GC bullets weight 270 gr when fully dressed and cast of WWs + 2% tin. out of my 4" Anaconda 21 gr 2400, 23 gr H4227 and 23 gr H110 (WW cases with WLP primers) all run in the 1150 fps range. They all shoot equally well. Out of a 16" M94 Winchester I had they all shot between 1475 and 1500 fps, again with pretty much the same accuracy.

I also cast the 429244 w/wheel weights and load it up with 22g W296 and WLP, been my go-to load for 20+ years. Accurate and hard hitting. I put a few completely through a large freshly felled honey pine I was using as a back stop @ 20 yards.

In a magnum case I like 7g W231 under this or the 429421 for a really nice meduim range load.
