I have a .31 Colt percussion with a rather large bore (.325") and would like to find a source of .330" pure lead round balls. This is the same as 00 Buckshot.

Any suggestions or offers? I need about 5 pounds. BPI and the like sell high antimony buckshot only.

Track of The Wolf is out of stock. BS jr....thanks but I do not want a cast ball with a spru. Anyway a .32 RB mould is usually too small for the .330" I need.

I just spoke to Hornady......the 00 Buck won't work. It is 7% antimony.

Any other suggestions.

Lee makes a single cavity mould in .330 round ball. But I really don't want a spru.

How about a 8mm Nambu bullet. About 100gr, and just might bump up if i cast it pure or in 1:30.

Anyone have a few cast Nambu boolits they would like to part with?

WBH,
The Lee round ball moulds are said, by the maker, to not leave a sprue.
Check them out here: http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi/catalog/browse.cgi?1224623118.2849=/html/catalog/blackpow.html

The cutter is tangential to the ball...they say. Or close enough.

Anyway, the .330" mould is discontinued. However I got someone at Lee to go into the warehouse and they found 1 on the shelf. FULL PRICE, but if it works, that'll be great.

I'll know in about a week. I still would like to try some soft Nambu bullets if anyone has any.

Borrow a 00 buckshot, 2 3/4" 12 Ga. shell from somewhere and take a pellet out and measure.

I've shot 32 caplock rifles for years and it is nearly impossible to find common lead buckshot now. AS you note even the Hornady is alloyed, and not really round either.

In the past I dismantled buckshot shells when the price differential was in my favor as against common buck by the pound. I find Hornady 0 buck runs .321/.325 per each on my calipers depending , so 00 from Hornady maybe sized ok for peestola and even with the antimony will go in a .31 revolver cylinder. A dismantled shell or two otherwise will tell you what you want to know.
