After I posted this, I went "DUH!", and did a search in the archives. Tons of info already, but I'll leave it here for you to kick around anyway.

What have you found to be your best kicker for .45-70 duplex?

This is from a Trapdoor Springfield I picked up at the gunshow last weekend.

1 7/16" today without wind. I can accept that from a 133 year old rifle and 65 year old eyes. A lot of modern factory rifles won't do that with a scope.

I did notice a slightly cracked case mouth after reloading, could have accounted for the high shot.

Still not happy, way too much trash left in the barrel. Definitely need to work with the kicker.

5.5 gr. 4064, 46 gr. WC872, 405 gr. Government powder coated bullet.

By the way, my aiming point was six o'clock on the white.

I have always used SR-4759 powder for duplex with BP. Before it was discontinued I purchased enough for my long-term needs for reduced and duplex loads. I have never used WC872 so I can't help with that.

I use 3031 for a kicker when using WC860 or 872 also with BP I use the 10% 90% formula works for me .
