I've been casting/loading this round for only a short time now for my 1895G...

Today I loaded up a few rounds of 340g RFN WW over 15gr of Unique.

Before heading out to the range today I filled up a (heavy plastic) jug full of water to see what would happen at 100 yards.

I sat the jug of water, which was about 4" inches thick by 12" tall on top, of my target frame.

I was quite surprised to see that the jug just spun around, not falling off the target frame and yet, see the dirt kick up on the hillside at the 250 yard mark pretty much in the line of sight or trajectory of the boolit.

I suppose this otta get a white tails full attention next month.

This really did exceed my expectations.

I don't have a chrony but I expect the velocity otta be around the 13 hundred mark.

ETA: Oh, I forgot to mention that I recovered the boolit. It was near perfect and could probably be loaded again. This was pure air cooled WW's.

:-D:-D

Were you using the Lee mold?

Remember everything depends on impact velocity... and with that load you could be using 30-1 mix for better expansion.

Were you using the Lee mold?

Yes, the Lee 459-340-F . It has two grease and a crimp groove.

I have used a RCBS 45-325-FP over the same powder charg and when cast from a soft mixture of lead (I use three bars of pure lead to one bar of WW) it expands real well in deer. I have only recovered one bullet from an animal but it was under the hide on the off side on a quartering shot. It was nearly 65 caliber when I measured it. The other two deer I shot with this bullet the slug made complete penetration.

Okay, thanks guys. I'll soften up a batch and try things from there. Hopefully it'll still be lead free down the tube.
