I just bought a Lee 429 200 RF bullet mold. I cast some today, and it
worked perfectly. There dropping from the mold at 230 gr and 210 gr.
I got this bullet to shoot in the .44 special revolver.
Now I'm looking for a good plinking load for it. Anyone have a mild
load for this bullet? I'm going to shoot this in a Taurus model 441.
Any info will be great. Thanks.

With that weight variance I would remelt the lighter ones - you may have voids in them.

Light load = 9-10 grains of Unique in 44mag cases.

OOPS I thought you were talking about a 44mag

My mistake.....I meant to say there .230 diameter and 210 grain.
It's been a long day.

That makes a little difference :)

This should get you close for your 44 Special

.430 and 210 grain?

I like my Accurate 430-240 A/AG mold. :) Works for my Henry and my Ruger.

Leadhead, I strongly recommend that you get your own data books. That way you can be sure you are looking at the right page!

Wayne, I've been casting and reloading for 50 years... I have a lot of reloading
books, but I just wanted to ask if anybody loaded for the 44 special. I've read
some things about the Taurus revolvers in 44 special shoot better with 200 gr
bullets. I've shot 44 magnum for years but have never played with the special.
I take loading info from the internet with a grain of salt and know enough to do
extra investigation before I continue. Just trying to get a ballpark idea.

I also have a Taurus 441. Have tried many loads in it over the years hoping to find tight groups and boolits striking the target at the sights. My early load work involved heavier boolits and milder pressures. All of these wound up hitting high and left of the sights. To lower the point of impact I went over to a Lyman 180 WC design (#429348) and loaded them over 7 or 8 grains Unique. These gave a lower point of impact but groups weren't what I wanted. I saw in the Lyman #45 manual a top loading of 11.5 grains Unique under this boolit and tried it in my 441. THIS LOAD was what the revolver wanted. Groups were the best to date, impact was at the sights and the empty cases came out of the cylinder without resistance. No, this load is not my choice for casual enjoyment, but it is the load I carry when this revolver goes out with me.

This same Lyman #45 shows a 205 grain boolit over (starting load) 6.0 Unique (793 fps) and (max load) 9.7 Unique 1197 fps). These speeds came from a 5 1/2" barrel. For casual enjoyment, the starting load looks interesting. Good luck with your search.

I love this bullet in my 441. For the wife and kids i use 4.5 grains unique very mild and accurate. For mild loads i go with 6.0 unique and full loads 7.8 unique. I have been using these loads for years . The 4.5 load is extremely accurate in my sw 44spec. Happy shooting the 441 is a nice gun you should enjoy.

Did some shooting yesterday and shot the Lee 200gr RNFP 6.0grs of unique.
They shot about 3" right of center... Rear sight was as far right as I could
get it...Don't know about this.... I'll keep trying different loads till I get it
right.

Move the rear sight to the left.

FORS meaning (Front Opposite Rear Same) so moving rear sight right moves bullet right, moving front sight right does the opposite.

I like 4.5-5grs of Titegroup for my 44 plinking loads.

I load 13.0g of 2400 under 210g boolit in 44spl brass. My S&W 29 loves it.

ironhead.... I had a brain freeze on the rear sight.... I shot IHMSA for 22 years
and should have known better. Haven't shot it since 2004. I shoot mostly old
military rifles where you have to move the FRONT sight to the right to move
the impact to the left. I'm 76 and guess I'm starting to loose my mind.I figured
out about the sight last night in bed..It's hell to get old.

With the Lee 200 gr RNFP bullet I use 4.5 gr. of 700X, makes a nice mild plinking load in my .44 spl.
