Mystery Lead

I was given about 1/4 of a 5gal bucket of what the feller sais was lead. It came form the steel mills in Gary, IN. I would say this "shot" is about #12. it is like lead sand - cery small shot. Unfortunatley is was in a bucket and is full of water now and I cant really tell what it is but is is very heavy like lead. I was hoping some one might have an idea what it could be or might be???

put it into a large steel vessel and light a fire under it...and tell us

It could be weight for scales of many differnt sizes. The scale factory in town get it by the pallet load for some sort of weight/counter weight in their scales. Or it could be #12 shot. Melt a little down and try it out. put a little between a vice jaws and see how it crushes.

Melt it in your ladle not in your pot, pour 1 or 2 boolits wwith it and test them. That is a good practice for any alloys that may contain zinc. Gianni

If it is lead,I would like to trade/buy 10 or 15 lbs. I use small shot for snake loads.......West Texas has a fair share of these vermin and I'm doin' all I can to lower the popualtion.....

I'm with Cactus Farmer on this one, I've been looking for small shot for snake loads for a long time. Sell it, I'll buy some. Probably to see if it's lead I'd weigh a certain volume with a known lead substance. This won't be perfect but it will give you a pretty good idea.

I think that Magma Engineering sells the shot making tool. The video looks pretty cool.
