Has anyone ever noticed that when you work a load up say for instance in 357M with cast 158 gr, SWC and powder coated using H110. The latter I worked from 12.6 to 15 gr's. I noticed my group wasn't too bad with 12.6 gr's. Between 12.7 and 14.5 groups were crappy then tightened up again over that. I used all the same brass, same crimp, same primers, same powder, same gun. Range was only about 10 yards - freehand.

I would recommend shooting off sand bags for starters.

It’s possible you were subconsciously reacting to what you knew would be higher recoil. Try shooting the ladder round robin .
Personally I prefer sand bags and a bit more distance. Regardless of how you do it ( with or w/ out bags) the round robin will make the subconscious part less likely

Yup, your really have to rule out other possible causes first. Then if and when you are sure it is the velocity creating the problem you can dig in and approach it methodically. Then you know for sure.

Makes sense. I'm aware that with rifles it's a good idea to let barrel cool a bit hence you won't see true performance. I have a fairly steady hand but in essence a sandbag or lead sled would be better.

I'd also back up. 10 yards will only tell you how you are shooting. Even 25 yards doesn't show a big difference between good loads.

I had days like that. Then next outing did better. I chalked it up to personal error.

Shoot of a rest test the load not your ability .
