This is my first post on CastBoolits , so please guide me if I have posted in the wrong place.

I have a New Old Stock Model 53 manufactured in 1990. I have re entered the Reloading hobby and seem to have forgotten past lessons received on bullet diameters. Bullet weight of between 100 and 115 but when I shop online I am running into diameter choices (.313 .314 etc..).. I have shot Winchester and Black Hills factory loads in the past but have no idea the diameter. Can someone tell me what diameter to purchase or how I find out proper diameter. I shoot only RNFP for Cowboy Action.

For what it's worth , my Browning model 53 is right at .314" and so far it's favorite bullet is the RCBS semi-wadcutter . I forget the mold number right now but that and Unique are the best for woods walking .

Excellent rifle and caliber. If loading your own, give both diameters a try and see which load and shoot the best.

Mine has done equally well with either .312 or .313, it particularly likes the RCBS 32-98 swc over 5.0 grains of Unique, but ww-231, Power Pistol, and Bullseye have all done pretty well.

Rintinglen, have you ever tried a gas checked boolit at higher velocity? Thanks for the tip on the Rcbs boolit, I will give it a try in mine.

I shoot the gc version of LY 311008 ( I think) at .313 in mine.

Here is a link to a great article on the 32-20 - http://www.leverguns.com/articles/paco/3220wcf.htm I enjoyed the read.
FWIW - I have a Winchester 1892 and find my rifle really likes .314 sized boolits

Mine is a Taylor & Co (Uberti) 1885 Low Wall with a .312 groove dia. and that exhibits preference for .314...either lubed and PC. Btw, I also highly recommend the Paco Kelly article suggested by Ranier.

I also have a H&G number sixty-seven mold that casts at .311" , it works fine with light charges of Bullseye . But if you try to hot rod it , the small diameter in the large groove makes problems for accuracy .

I've since gone to the RCBS bullet and Unique for fuel .

I have a pair of 53s of late production. 25/20 & 32/20 both rifles shoot cast well but the 25/20 doesn't like 257" jacketed bullets. I shoot an old Ideal 115g FN cast in both my 53Win, 94Mar and S&W revolvers with good results. Mine are originals and I stick around factory duplication loads and am not interested in hot rodding them. A buddy of mine has the Brn 53 and shoots my loads with good accuracy. I'm burning Unique.
