I bought a new Lyman 452460 and was having trouble with the bases not filling out. I tried a loose sprue plate and hotter alloy with little improvement. Then I remembered somone here suggested breaking the top edge of the inside of the mould with a stone. I did that and instantly got complete fillout.
Thanks to whoever posted that.

So Randall, are you saying that you just broke the edge under the sprue plate?

IIRC you use a very fine stone and just take a pass or 2 at the top angle of the blocks where they meet. This allows a little venting in that area and lets the alloy fill out better.

Glad you mentioned this, I'd forgotten it.

Thats it, I ended up with a barely visible white corner instead of blued.

I've got a Lee that has poor bottom fill out, where do I stone? The edge of the cavaity where the two halfs meet?

Yes, I stoned the top of the blocks where they meet, it doesn't take much on the Lyman blocks, I have never tried it on any other moulds or aluminum.
