it was only -16F overnight & that is sort of "balmy" for this time of year. Right now it is 5F at 10:38AM with a wind chill of only -12F. Quite tolerable, considering where I live in MN...

6" of snow accumulated on the ground (pretty dry here), +34*F here now. It WAS down to -21*F a few days ago with strong breezes. It hasn't been down to -40*F/-60*F (!!!) for over a decade, but that's been known to happen. I remember back about '72..........!!

The wife and I went out side to look around to see what blew into and out of the yard. She tried to say something but the words got froze up in her mouth.
She went inside spit them out on the kitchen table and when the thawed out I heard what she said outside.

-6 last night, +3 right now. We got about a foot of light snow the night before, then turned to rain & sleet by morning. That made for heavy plowing. Got done just as the temp started dropping, now have a glacier out there. Wind's blowing so hard I'm afraid it'll blow the electric off the wires.

I have not seen Mt. Washington, but have read articles about it and know it must be very windy up on top. Here today in SW Missouri, it was 20° this morning about 6 am with wind chill factor of -6°. Now it is so windy that it blew one of our old (really old) metal porch chairs off and about 20 feet across the side yard. Temperature is 32° now with wind chill at 21° with a south wind of 17 mph. It has been a miserable day as we spent the day doing some necessary grocery and hardware shopping in town.

I am not a fisherman but I see lots of people out there on the ice.
Never understood ice fishing. Lots of people love it but it is not for me.....
My handle actually comes from lobstering....I had a small lobster boat and fished 25+ traps in Portsmouth Harbor for many years.
The old timers always called lobstering fishing, and they called lobsters bugs....ergo fish4bugs!

Sounds like Occasional Cortex needs to go outside and do some of her bare foot roof top dancing she is famous for in her district. After she got the feeling back in her feet she might get a light bulb switched on ...... on the other end.

Here in my parts of Central Washingtongrad ....... we are running upper 20’s to low 30’s at night to mid 40’s daytime. Some fog some sunshine just depends on the mood Mr. Weather is in.

I run cows so I am glad for the break this winter. I feel for all you folks suffering back in the eastern Northern tier of States.

I have noticed the overall winter weather acts like a teeter totter. If the Pacific Northwest and some east of us is getting hammered, the eastern northern tier of States is getting a pass. But if we in the PNW are getting a pass you all back east are getting hammered.

The situation can and normally does flip back some years but not always. The big decider here is the Jet Stream and just how it is laying out.

Any way, my .02 worth

Hi...
16°F here in South Central Pennsylvania this morning. We got a few inches of snow yesterday...solar radiation is melting the ice on the roads a bit.
The coldest weather in several years is supposed to hit later today.
Sub-Zero temps predicted with negative 20s wind chills.
Be interesting to see how the heat pump reacts to those temps...I hate to think what the emergency heaters running for a couple of days will do to the electric bill.
May need to run the kerosene heater during the day.

By yaw'ls standards, we don't have winter here.
Something I've heard about when it gets super cold is that you can go out and blow those little kid soap bubbles.
If it's cold enough, they freeze in the air and shatter when they hit the ground.

My Dad talked of when he first got to the AF base on Adak, Alaska in 1951 or '52,
and they only had those sheet metal 'Gomer Pyle' Quonset huts with a Kerosene heater inside.
It got so cold a few times the Kerosene would freeze.

Glad I don’t live where it gets that cold. SE NM dips into the low teens often enough and that’s too cold for me. We’re in the slow process of moving to Texas, near Houston. (I grew up there so I know about the summers. I always said the sailing season started Labor Day weekend and ended July 4. Too hot and no wind in July and August.)

I read on an F-150 troubleshooting website a few days ago some guy in AZ saying it got “really cold last night, like 52 degrees.”

Very mild winter so far her in the pacific northwest. Haven't had snow on the ground for more than a couple of days at a time. Christmas was the last good snow.

I bought a new UTV last summer and was looking forward to driving it around town in the snow for fun. Haven't had a chance since if it snows, it's gone by the time I'm off shifts. Been needing to burn slash piles we logged down at the family cabin, but it's been months of rain and ground is too soft to go in with equipment. Just really, really weird winter.

Means we're going to have a very bad fire season this summer.

Mid-twenties and thirties at night and 40's during the day. Just a long and gloomy season so far.

Funny you say that as I was talking to a co-worker today about that. When I was in high school I cut pulp for a couple of winters. One of them we had a solid week of -20 every day as a high. Getting 8-11" tonight and tomorrow, to go on the ice, that we just got, that hit that cold ground, and is rock solid. More snow for Thursday and Sunday, and nothing about 32, as far as my weather goes out(next Friday).

All the egg-sperts say the earth's average temperature is rising.
It's got to be really hot someplace this winter, 'cause it's been kind of frosty around here.
..

Australia is seeing record high temperatures. Apparently koalas were dropping dead out of trees a few weeks ago, haha.

If they were drop bears, there wouldn't be anyone left to report anything.

Hi...
Here in South Central Pennsylvania we are still hovering right around the 32°F mark.
Got about 3" of snow overnight which was quickly covered up with a nice coating of ice when the snow changed over to freezing rain early this morning.
Still raining at a steady rate...hope it warms up enough to wash the snow and ice away.

We got about 8" of snow up until noon. More on the way, it sure keeps you warm shoveling.

This winter in NEPA, we keep getting the typical 4 or 5 inches snow then a inch or so of ice from freezing rain then just plain rain going back to snow.....makes for a nasty driving parfait! 4 wheel drive doesn't work! just sink in and spin 4 wheels!

Double up your drawers, boys! I'll stay here where it's about 50, thank you very much.

Yeah, years ago my step-dad was driving for Allied Van Lines and I went with him when school was out. One year during Christmas vacation he took me on a run to Denton and everybody was staring at us cause they had jackets on and we were wearing short sleeved shirts.
