When you go from using a 24 BHN bullet in your rifle, and start using a 10-15 BHN bullet, is there more to consider then lubrication?

What came to my mind is to slug your barrel, if you haven't done so already. Then size your cast bullets to .001" - .002" over the groove diameter.
There is a saying floating around these forums...."fit is king".
Also, gas checks on the bullet may be necessary if you are shooting hot loads, such as magnum loads.

if your trying to push those bullets at jacketed velocitys a lot changes. Softer alloys and high pressures can actually cause a bullet to change shape or distort. Accuracy will usually suffer for it. think of turning that pretty pointed spitzer you casted into basically a blob of lead that is slightly different every time you shoot it. Now if your running those 10bhn bullets at say a 1000fps not so much but push the same bullet to 2000 plus and the whole game changes. Leading is only a small part of the big picture.

ive been using a 170 grain true shot gc bullet with 10 grains of red dot and only have powder residue to deal with, no lead at all.

Its just that im contemplating getting some from Matts Bullets, seem to be same bullet except flat based, with a far softer alloy.

So you are making two changes, a softer boolit and the lack of a gas check. Major changes. Those softer flat based boolits are designed for lower velocities. Fit is king, and even more so with soft fb boolits, so know your dimensions.
