I now have a K31 and would like to shoot it, but the available surplus ammo is not allowed on any indoor range around here. I thought I would try to use a cast bullet load. Since I am past the age where ability to stand recoil is a necessary test of my manhood, I'd like to try something in the 1600 to 2000 range with a 160 to 180 grn bullet.
After doing alot of searching, all I have found is a suggestion to use 2400 and/or 748 for powder, but no load data. I'm not comfortable guessing from say .308 cast bullet loads, does anyone have Swiss experience they could share? Thanks in advance.

Try unique or red dot in the 10-12 gr range. These are pretty universal loads for 30 cal using cast bullets. I have shot a few rounds using Unique. these would be in the 1400-1600 range on the lower end.

.............In that casesize a generic load is 16.0/2400, in addition to those Mark mentioned. The 7.5 Swiss case capacity put's it on very common gound, along with the other full power military cases. These being the 308, 30-06, 8x57, 7.65x53, 7x57, and 7.62x54R.

Other starters would be 18 - 22.0/ SR4759, 4227 and 21 - 24.0 RE7, 4198. All these will be in that velocity range.

Hard to beat 2400 at 18-20 grains or 4227 H or IMR at the same weight. Some more loads I used are 20.5 Acc. 5744 or SR4759, 22 of RE7, 27 for IMR 3031 and 18.5 Blue Dot. Not all of the above loads have shot good for me. the 2400, 4227 and BD with 311291 @ .310 have been the best so far. I haven't chronoed the loads but estimate between 1750 and 2050.
The design of the action is weak on the right side and this makes low vol. loads shoot to the right a little, try to keep vol. at 1900 to 2100 to make front sight adjustment easer.

Do a search here in the Military Rifle section for posts by BobS. He has the dope on the Swiss. One of the nice things about the S-R rifle is the short throat that works real well with the Lee 7.62x39 boolit designs. Also some of the lighter 30 cal designs take to this throat real well, or so it's claimed. The throat is apparently too short as issued for the heavier boolit designs without intruding well past the shoulder. I regret my S-R hasn't tasted much in cast as of yet.

Jake- Hadn't heard anything about the S-R being weak anywhere. Whats the scoop?

I was told about the low vol shooting right thing that was caused by the action being a little weak on the right side due to the design at, swissrifle.com. I didn't beleave it at first, then I started upping vol at about 100fps spreads, for each 100fps jump it would shoot a little more left (I started with 16 of 2400 and 311359).
Both fof my K31's do shoot right with LV anything so now I beleave what I was told at swissrifle.
