I got a few hundred of these critters from a friend. He doesn't know what they are either. They weigh in at approximately 98 grains, they are 0.524" long, 0.3585" diameter and have a SAECO hardness of 9 or a BHN of 18. Are they for a 9mm or a 38/357?

Any thoughts?

Thanks...BCB

Looks like a Lyman 358345. At .3585 you can use them for either 9mm or 38/357.

Don't know what it is but it looks similar to the Lee 105g only Lee's has just one lube groove. If it is anything like it is is a great shooter in 9mm or 38/357 and a few others of the .357 dimention too!

On second look they do look just like the Lee 105g SWC. I thought they just had one groove but they have the two. Great little plinker and accurate too!

Those are Lee 105s. Got some from Lloyd awhile back.

Nose is too long and too narrow for that to be 358345. I'm looking at both side by side next to the picture here and it is the lee 358-105-SWC

Load them into .38 Spcl cases with 2 gr of BE and use them for popcorn. They will shoot low, but it is a great load for introducing kids or girlfriends to shooting. Very little recoil, but also very little accuracy. If fired @ 5 yards, they're OK. I have NEVER been able to achieve anything like good accuracy with a light bullet in a .38, or even a .357. Still, the boolit has some utility.

The 98 grain weight makes sense IF you know that Lee makes their molds to be used with Wheel Weight alloy. The BHN of ~18 indicates old linotype with some tin burned out.

Lee 105, very accurate in several 9mm Luger pistols. Works just
like the H&G 68 does for the .45 ACP. Reliable feeder, too.

I tried loading a few of these little rascals in 38 Special cases and shot them from my Ruger Security-Six in 357 Magnum.

I used 4.0 grains of Bullseye and a CCI-550 primer. The distance was 50 feet. (Can’t see any farther then that anymore with open sites!) That target shows 5 hits. Guess one of them went into the same hole or into the area where the bullets hit vertically. I was holding at 6 o’clock on the black dot that is 1.5” in diameter.

The first hit was the one off to the left of the other impacts. I think I was a bit anticipatory of how vicious the recoil might be with a 95 grain slug and 4.0 grains of Bullseye!!!!!!!!

Regardless of what the slug is, it sure isn’t lacking accuracy although I think it might be a bit undersize for the Ruger. I did not some minor leading after a few dozen rounds. I do believe the slug is a Lee 358-105-SWC also.

Nice little plinker for sure…BCB

BCB,
Nice shooting! I have a Lee mold for that bullet and have used it to replicate the early 1900's .38 Special "Mid Range load of 2.3 grs. of Bullseye. It printed a 1" group at 50' from my Ruger Security Six.

I sent you a PM.
