Welcome AKgunnut1 if you’ve been lurking for a while then you know what a vast resource this site is. I lurked a while and found out there ain’t nothing one of these guys hasn’t seen or experienced.

If your wondering about something just ask, read the sticky’s and it probably there.

There’s a lot of knowledge on this forum and most are willing to help or guide you to help in finding out what you ask.

When you get into casting, you won’t save any money but you will get more for the money you spent, again welcome and happy casting them boolits. Hossfly

Welcome AKgunnut1 to the absolute best place on the big web to hang your hat. From the looks of your reloading bench, you'll fit in pretty good.:drinks:
I found that even with a lot of years experience under my belt that there was so much that I didn't know. I've come a long way, but still have a long way to go. I see you are a long time hand-loader yourself. I am certain you will still pick up a few new ideas from some of the best right here.

Lesson #1, grasshopper.
THAT is not a messy loading bench. You can still see the top. It would take me two days to get mine that clean.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the best site on the net for learning about casting. I started handloading in 1970, then casting in 1973. Plodded along for many years thinking I knew a bit about casting. That lasted until I found this site. Was I ever wrong! Since joining in here my knowledge about casting has increased several times over, and the satisfaction that comes with this has been a parallel with the knowledge. Simply ask what you want to learn, there are many generous members who will jump in to help. Enjoy.

were just shooting more with the money we spend.

You have to figure all the equipment you buy for casting

then you need to decide if you want to use messy lube or cool looking powdercoating or HiTek coating (you can tell I'm not a little prejudiced :))

So after you have accumulated all the equipment/tools you need, then the equipment/tools you don't really need but is either cool or makes the process a little easier or more fun.
As the years go on you see new equipment/tools that for some reason you just gotta have.

Yes it is a disease and so far haven't found a cure ( or looked very hard for one )

Seriously, after you have the equipment/tools you need, recycle the lead (boolit traps of some sort)

you'll pay apr 4¢ for primers 4¢ for powder (handgun) 12¢ rifle and pennies for the lube or boolit coating.

If you're wanting to get into casting I suggest the casting kit from Lyman. Its less than $100 and it comes with most of what you need to get started. If you don't wanna go that route I still will advise getting the Lyman cast bullet handbook. It's got alot of information that is very useful. Also ask questions. The only stupid question is the one not asked. Also you can check around at your local gun range and see if anyone there casts. They may be willing to help you learn.

Welcome. Sounds like you and I have a lot in common. I had been reloading for years but never got into casting except for my muzzle loader. One day I figured I'd give it a go and came across this site. Basically everything I know about casting bullets and loading them up came from right here. That was about 4 years ago and what a ride it has been so far. The folks here are great about helping out and have sure helped me.
