Got a chance to take my 30/06 to the range. It's P-14 action , Douglas barrel which was barely used but my gunsmith said was in good shape. The stock I got as a rough blank from Gunparts for $10.00 and added the tip. Sam Adams my favorite gunsmith mated the barrel to the action ,bedded it with Devcon and set it up for a scope. The rifle is a single shot with a wood ramp in the stock to guide the shell. The scope is an old 8x Weaver mounted in Burris Signature Rings with the inserts( really like them they don't stress your scope). The shells were neck sized in a Lee neck sizer, the bullets were the group buy Loverin like a Lyman 311407(from a couple of years ago) and some Lyman 311644s. The load was 20gr of IMR 4227 for about 1600fps.The No.1 target the first 2 shots out of the cold barrel were a little left and the rest started to group, No.2 was better and No.3 I was really pleased with at 1 inch. I tried the few 311644 and got the lower 3shot and 5 Shot groups . It definitely shows promise too. Not all days are as good as this but any day at the range is fun.

Reloader06 ,range was 100yds. It nice day with no wind (a rarity). Would like to fire it at longer range but would have to drive a couple of hours to do it.So that will have to wait.Mel

After the good results with the Loverin bullet I figured it might work for hunting if I could get up to around 2000fps. So I loaded some with 27gr and 30 gr of IMR 4895. These were plain wheel weight and double lubed with LLA. I was a little worried they were too soft. The27gr put 4 into an inch with the flyer opening it to 1.6 inches and the 30gr load ran a 1.6in and a 1.1 in at 100 yds. Deifinitely good enough to hunt with.Found a few flakes of lead when I cleaned the barrel but not much. Probably pushing this soft of a bullet. Has anyone tried the Lyman 311644 at higher velocities in the 30/06? I'd like a faster speed for some competitions at longer ranges. Mel

Mel, I can't answer about the 311644 but can state that ww are not too soft for Whitetail and Antelope.
If you are talking about the 152 gr 311466 my accuracy limit is around 2100 fps in the 308. I don't have load data here as I am on the road. Gianni

Thanks Gianni, The311644 is a 190gr funny looking target bullet with a couple of driving bands near the nose ; according Lyman is made for the 308 Win. Glad to hear wheelweights will hold up to 2100 without heat treating. I'd like to use the heavier bullet for some longer range target shooting against the J-Bullets. Must try the 466 , I've got the mould. Thanks again .Mel
