Some of the people on this site don't want to discuss or even mention jacketed bullets so they use a code word instead.

Don't know why people dislike jacketed bullets so much, after all, they are filled with lead.

Sheesh, I just type 'bullets'.

Easier than trying to spell projectiles.

Like a few others, I fail to understand the weird, eccentric suppression of the word "jacketed", but this is otherwise an excellent site.

Just a light hearted comical reference. don't read too much into it.

augercreek,
That is a fine question.
Since you posted it in the section titled, "Cast Boolits" which has a description (quoted below), I would have thought it might be obvious.

The place to discuss our favorite pb projectiles. Boolits = as God laid it into the soil, Grand Old Galena, The Silver Stream graciously hand poured into molds for our consumption. . . Bullets= Machine made utilizing Full Length Gas Checks as to provide projectiles for the masses.
Yes, that description is tongue-in-cheek...and our use of the term "J-Words" as a weird, eccentric suppression of a projectile that isn't a Boolit...is also tongue-in-cheek.

Okay, I get it. Thanks for clearing that up. I always wondered about that. I should have asked.

I shoot both J-word and Cast...I like both for various reasons and their intended purposes...so I don't have a problem using the word jacketed around here. :-P

It is derived from an old cast bullet forum that did not allow it's members to use the term "Jacketed" in any of it's communications. It somehow was transferred here by those members who later came here.

Well... Jacketed bullets are clearly not kosher for some of the purists.

Heck I like jacketed bullets. They have 2 problems. 1st... I cannot make them myself...2nd, I cant afford to buy them in any quantity. I'd like to get into swaging, but I aint got there yet.

I like the tradition of making lead projectiles and using them in guns that were made for them, or that do well with them. For example. 38 special revolvers, 44 mag and 45 colt revolvers, 45-70 rifles, and 30-30's Now... 30-30 wasnt made for lead, but it will handle lead at full power.

I won't knock cast boolits at all - I own a couple of rifles that will never taste copper - but jacketed bullets load a lot faster. No sizing, lube, grease cookies or patching.

Shooting j word bullets like driving a Dodge truck, it’s ok as long as you don’t get caught. LOL

I don't "speed load" any of my handloads and I feel much more satisfaction using cast bullets. The actual loading ain't no different than full condom bullets, but there is a bit more (a lot more?) that goes into making a lead bullet than picking a jacketed out of a box. But in the long run, my bench has room for both. My "Just In Case" handgun ammo is jacketed (9mm & 35 ACP)...

Do we have a new cartridge? I can't find any data on 35 ACP anywhere.

The problem with using Kosher bullets is that they have to be reloaded on a separate set of tools which never come in contact with jacketed projectiles.

That's funny!
And I actually do have two sets of dies for my black/cast vs. smokeless/jacketed rifles.

If I buy j-word bullets I'll get the boat tail bullets. Much easier to load.....

Last time at the range, I was testing some cast loads for my .308 and the guy next to me asked me: "It seems like so many variables, why do you bother trying to shoot cast boolits out of that gun?"
I just said, "If it works, it'll be cool. If it doesn't, I'll try something different. Eventually it will work AND when it does, I'll be able to shoot .308 for about $0.20 - $0.30 a round AND those rounds will take much longer to wear my barrel down."
He looked at me and said that it still seemed like too much trouble. He was a Jword bullet kind of man.

I love both. But except for my +3000fps rifles, I'm using cast 75% of the time. 100% cast for .38 Special, 44-40, and 38-55 cartridges. I shoot a lot; cast boolits makes that possible! My friends say I'm a better shot than them- if I am -it is to the credit of practice with LEAD.

I got a great deal on some 38 cal 125g J-word bullets ($100-2K) so I’m using them up, but other than that, my 38spls would never see a jacket. Still use Hornady 158g XTPs for hot loaded 357mag. Other than that they too don’t see a J-word.

OOPS! Yeah, I jes invented it, sorta, kinda a wasp waist 9mm with a titanium case and a cast iron bullet. Ain't worked too good yet. 35 Anti Cat Poop.....:veryconfu

As obvious, my fat fingers often hit the wrong key, and my proof reader ain't at home, sorry...

helps us define what type of bullet we're talking about cast or jwords or jacketedeed (less letters to type and get wrong. :) )

J-word bullets are for people that are too lazy to cast.I like to cast. I get more fun out of the same amount of rounds and more rounds out of the same amount of money. Sometimes I load jackets. It isn't because I'm lazy. It's because they meet the requirements of my load.
