I'm wondering if anyone, most likely from Australia or NZ has use AP70N in their cast loads for a 300 Blackout?
My rifle is a CVA single shot 1:8 twist.
I plan on using Lees 113gn .309 or maybe the Lee 100gn .311 PB, powdercoated. Supersonic or subsonic is fine, just punching holes in paper.
AP70N is listed as having a burn rate close to Unique. It lies between Green Dot and Herco so even if someone is using that it could give me a starting point to work from.
Cheers.

Might find loads from 300blktalk site. Anything like unique should work, I've used cfepistol 6-7gr for the hornady half jacket.

Thanks. I'll try over there.

My rem 700 1:7 loves unique...shoot the Lee 90 grain swc bullet (powder coated) made for 32 cal pistols over a pinch of it for all day plinking fun!

It be murder on rabbits and squirrel bit I find them accurate enough to mow saplings in half at 25-50 yards

With that 113 you'd prob have the same fun...giggle factor is high with this load. Very quiet at the muzzle even with no can (like a light 22 lr load)

Until recently, Hodgdon Universal is AP70N, made for Hodgdon by ADI in Australia.

So look for any data that has Hodgdon Universal.

Don't substitute the same amount of AP70N for any Unique loads you might find. AP70N is a bit faster and in pistol calibers it uses less powder for the same velocities.

So it's more like W231? My chart shows universal slower than unique. I know, it just a chart and they change.

Running it through quick load it shows even with the heaviest of the two you listed (Lee 113 grn) loaded fairly deep (@1.800 as a test not saying that is the proper or even possible seating depth) with a fairly high charge of Ap70n at 7 grains you are still just at 27.6k psi pressure...Stout for a pistol but just fine for a rifle used to 50k+ pressure.

That isn't to say you can double the load...just incremental increases make that pressure jump exponentially...(8 grn = 35k, 9 grn = 43, 10grn = 52k...and exponentially on from there it goes till boom there goes your fingers)

With cast I'd stay easy at 7 grains and below...1500 fps out of a 16 inch barrel...

My unique or Tite group loads with that 90 swc are near 4...which in Ap70n gets you just over the Sonic barrier with 10k pressure...easy peasy. However I have zero experience with Ap70n...so I don't know if it does crazy things in light loadings...for instance I'd never do something like this with H110 as it has a history of doing unexpected and terrible things in low density loads so please check with others on yhe behavior of this powder.

Unique is good in light loads, Tite group is good in light loads....2400 is too...Ap70n? No idea

Thanks for the info. I might try a starting load of 5 gns and see what happens from there. That leaves plenty of scope to work on. I see no reason to go beyond 7 gns for what I need to do with these loads.

I don’t know about your powder but bullseye at 3.2 gr in a savage axis in 308 win with the 100 gr lee bullet sized at .311 is awesome.

Cheers. This just prompted me to look up my old .308 reloading data. Turns out years ago I was using 10gns AP70N behind a 160gn cast bullet.
