I am wondering if is advisable to use 44Mag Brass to load to 44 spec level. 6.3 grains Unique?

Thank you, Charlie

That would be a very light load. I would step it up to 7.5grs or switch to 5.0grs of Titegroup.

I have been using 7.0grs of Unique behind a 240 grain cast bullet for many years in my Model 29.. That is almost right on spec as a 44 special substitute using 44 Mag cases. I feel the same as Walks 6.3gr is a little to light you may end up with squib loads, that extra .7 grains will make a difference in performance.
I should add that 7.0gr of Unique is not recommended in the 44 special. The extra case capacity of the 44 Mag case will have lower pressures using that load brings it down to 44 special pressures. The 7.0grs of Unique is my plinking load and it is very accurate.

I think Mag brass is more accurate with Semi Wadcutters. Worth whatever extra powder it takes.

Concur that is a pretty light load of Unique for a 240 gr SWC in 44 Magnum cases. It will not burn as efficiently as a faster powder such as Bullseye or Red Dot. In the mag cases 5.5 to 6.5 gr of either will make a better load than that light load of Unique will.

If Unique is what you want to use then 8.5 gr under that bullet is an excellent "mid range" load.

Not really sure of the exact load you quoted, (I would use Bullseye or W231 quite often under a 429421), but I have been using "Special" loads in "Magnum" brass for well over 30 years...

Thank you , you have answered all my questions. I will go up to at least 7 and go from there. Thanks again, Charlie

Larry, 8.5 grn of unique under a 240 grn pb boolit is exactly what I found to be nice feeling, has good accuracy and doesn't lead my gun.

If you want a really light load, use trailboss.

Larry nailed it. I’ve been using 8.5 gr under that bullet. Extremely pleasant to shoot and very accurate
