I use the common brass jags with the integral pin. I have long been tired of removing the rod and guide from the barrel to put a new patch on, or impaling my fingers trying to get patches changed inside the receiver. Today, there was a clap of thunder and the voice of James Earl Jones said, "poke a hole in the center of the patch with an awl, stupid."

YAH but if you don't get that hole directly in the center of the patch it will make the patch go down the bore lopsided, then it cleans better on one side than the other!! [smilie=b: :kidding:

But it's still a good idea, thanks

If fouling is left in the bore while following the rifling would that help spin the boolit?[smilie=l::lovebooli

If you've had problems with impaling your fingers on a jag, I'd stay far away from trying to punch patches with an awl. They're a heck of a lot sharper.:kidding:

Here's a suggestion. Remember the spindles desk jockey's used for spindling receipts? Set a pin of your preferred diameter in a nice block of oak, spindle a bunch of patches all at once, and pick them off one at a time! Maybe I'll make one for myself. Clean and handy. The more I think about it, the better I like it.

You guys are nuts. Just wrap the patch around the bronze brush you just got through pushing through the bore on the "clean cycle." Scrub 'n' wipe on the same pass.
