I'd like to try some round balls in my 12 gauge before I buy a mold. Lee makes a .690" mold, but I'd be interested in other sizes as well. I might also be interested in some other cast 12 ga slugs.

Let me know what you're interested in, I have available:
-.459 Lyman 400gr FP, 330gr HP, and 330gr FP
-Lots of 45 Colt and 454 Casull designs, including 454424, 452423, Lee 300 WFNGC, NEI 380gr GC, and others.
-45 Auto Lee 230 TC
-Lee .309 190 (casts at 200gr) and 170

I mostly cast with ww+2% tin, and can water quench or air cool, whatever you like. I can lube with BAC or CR and size at .454, .452, or .309 (those are the only sizers I have for now).

How about I just send you my .715 mold to use in exchange for your Lyman .459 400gr. FP...I'll take good care of your mould and this way we can both make as many of each as we want....My .715 is a Dixie scissor mould but it still makes OK balls... you have to cut the sprurs but it's not too hard.

Let me know,
Wes

Yondering... Mike your Bore ! Round Ball does not compress like a Forster slug. If you have a FULL choke barrel you may swell it or worse using Round Ball. 150 years ago shotguns had no chokes... so thus RB was used by everyone. When Choked barrels became popular RB near died out. The Forster slug was invented to fill the gap. There where no more Buff and few bears so DEEP penetration was no longer considered. You can shoot a RB .005 over your narrowest choke diameter... Larger oversize diameter than actual bore and you are treading where I have no imfomation. If you are going to use a plastic shotcup then the plastic will be a little more fogiving as the patals are about .015 thick... but again Mike the BORE FIRST !!! This is equal to shooting a boolit in a rifle. Bore diameter IS VERY IMPORTANT...

Missionary, I'll be miking my bore for sure. I have 3 different barrels and 6 chokes for one of the barrels, the other two are smoothbore, so I should have something that works.

Freedom475 and SWIAFB, thanks for the offers, I'm interested and PM's sent to both.

Still looking for some other size balls to try as well, including .690 from the Lee mold.

What the heck, I'd also like to trade for some slugs that some of you guys cast. Lee, Lyman, whatever, just let me know what you've got!
Thanks!

yondering, I cast the Lee keyed slug thats loaded like a regular shotshell with a star crimp and if interested in some, send me a pm and I will send you some to try out with their load data and some I have worked up myself. If you like them we can go from there and if not. Melt them down. Their cast from 99% lead and thats what they require or they say they will stick but I have never had a problem with WW lead. You just gotta run it hot and let em frost and they come out great.
And just out of curiosity, Are you hunting with them? I have shot"Pumpkin Balls" in the past and accuracy was terrible and good for only 40yds and under.

mikenbarb, thanks, PM sent.
Yes, I'd like to hunt with them at some point, but still in the experimental stages so far. I've used my 12 gauge on a few deer with forster type slugs, with excellent results, and actually pretty good accuracy, but got the urge to roll my own for this one along with all the other calibers I load for.

Mike, haven't had a chance to try them yet. I'm in Minneapolis on business all week so I won't get a chance till next weekend. Thanks for sending them though.
BTW, your 20 ga wads went out yesterday.

I've tried Lyman .690 RBs in my Moss 500 rifled slug barrel....accuracy wasn't that impressive as opposed to the Lyman slug that looks like an overgrown air rifle pellet!
At short range though ( 50 yards or less ) accuracy is fair/good and I would not hesitate to use it on just about anything smaller than a T-rex!
