Failed my stress test a few weeks back, the Dr set up a heart cath for today came through with flying colors, no blockage or build up in my veins. He said the problem was a weak heart muscle \, and could be handled with meds. Sure better than opening up my chest. Not to bsd for a man who will be 80 soon.

Great to hear! I got the "zipper" when I was 10 but got lucky at that age they go in from the side and don't crack you open. Had my last heart cath at 16, so I guess this coming spring makes 10 years on that one. Makes you feel a little funky after the fact but needs to be done! Worst part is that dang bandage on your leg where's they shave about 4" of your leg, then put a 11.75" industrial construction adhesive bandage down your leg and up to your belly button, and tell you to get it off the next day!

A word of caution; talk to a pharmacist you trust about the meds and dosage you're on, and get a second opinion if it doesn't sound right. Twice I've went in feeling ill only to find out they had me on a ridiculous dosage of meds I should have talked to someone else about before taking their word for it. One time I went into A-fib and drove myself in, turned out to have been medicine induced! Nurses at the ER got real hot when they heard I had drove myself there!
Good luck!

cath's have come a long way . on my first more than 20 years ago they had to clamp your leg to the bed for 24 hours with what looked like a c clamp. my last one last year they go in through your wrist use colligin plug to seal the artery and you just have to wear a wrist brace. you still have to stay overnight . my only question is just how many stints can they put in you?

My cath was simple I guess I was up ad walking out of the office in 30 min. left the small bandage on for 24 hrs and back to normal activities in 24 hrs. Two little needle marks in right crotch and no bleeding at all. They did another scan yesterday and will find out Monday if they are going to treat it with meds or put a de-fib unit in.

I had one a few years ago, I was certain I was going to fail it because I had been having chest pains for the last year on and off. Turns out it was stress not heart issues as my heart is perfectly healthy and I passed mine with flying colors.

The heart is something you certainly want to keep healthy as when it goes you don't get time to get it fixed normally.

That is good news. Younger bro had the same prob a few months back, fail the chem stress test, and passed the cath fine. Funny thing, he was getting prepared for cataract fix and doc required the EKG,stress test. Who'da thunk. BIL went afib and had the EMT 'fix' it at home. Don't ever try that!! He hurt for weeks and had to get the defib. P.M. anyway. Mine is just a pacer, installed after my heart stopped during surgery for a leg stent. Said my heart would stop and then restart itself. I said so what?, remark didn't fly well. 'You're gonna die - so what, I'm OLD. You do have to watch the meds, they can have some bizarre effects.

i say overnight stay because they put in stints.and through the wrist is definitely the way to go.
