Just purchased a new .458 upper assembly from tromix and would like to buy a sizing die so I can start casting and sizing. Looking for some first hand experience from those who cast for their tromix .458’s. Do their barrels size at .458 or are they +/-? Also, I’m thinking the rcbs 300 grain gas check mold would be a good one but I’m open to suggestions.

(Can’t slug the barrel since I can’t open it till Christmas)

I want a 458 socom upper for my ar 15 lower...
I have a NOE Ranchdog mold but it doesn't look like they sell those anymore...

This one looks good though:

It is a 396 grn some of them come with several points that insert into the mold. If you cast the flat nose, but if you get one that has the hollow points it will be in the 360 grn range or with the cup points it will be in the 380 grn range.

EDIT:
With lead, I would go 460 in a 458 barrel... You can get a 460 push through die from Lee - just ask them.

I agree with the 460, but ensure you size the brass before loading, the shoulder must be set back in order for the bolt to go fully forward. Check out Big Bore on the Teppo Jutsu forum, he is really good with the 458. I like shooting the 500 grain from the Lee mold.

I would email Tony at Tromix. He usually answers pretty quickly.

Never heard back from Tony, but I’ll try again. Where do I go now to find non-standard lube sizers? I read somewhere that buckshot isn’t doing it any more. I’ll likely need something about .459

You could contact Buckshot and see if he has any of that size in Stock. I heard that he isn't making them anymore, but may still have some odds and ends leftover.

I shoot 4595 in a Tromix upper , I never slugged the barrel because this is my Marlin size, I tried it and it works.

I opened up a Lee 457 push through die,my bullets are coated and plain base.

One tip about sizing/pushing the shoulder: only size enough to chamber. Take your time to find out what is right for YOUR chamber. It's very easy to push the shoulder all too far in 458 Socom at least with Hornady/Redding sizers. That means exessive headspace.

Get ahold of Lathesmith on this forum, I am sure he will make what you want. I size to .460". You also might try Buffalo arms or Track of the Wolf first.
