View Full Version : Lousy day of fishing, but still a good day.

I took a drive out to Lake Palestine this morning so I could see about filling up my freezer with catfish. I got there about 8am and left right before 1pm. Not a single bite on the two rods I had set up for catfish. Bluegill stole the chicken liver a time or two but that was it. I didn't get a bite on my bass rod either. I couldn't even catch any kind of sunfish to use as bait...

I don't think I've ever fished that long without a least getting a bite or two. It was a beautiful day though. The few spots I fished at were pretty much deserted. I felt like I had the lake to myself. Just me and the sound of the waves coming in. If it had been a little cooler I might have dozed off.

A bad day fishing is still better than a good day cooped up inside!

6 weeks of no fishing or boating due to red tide here.

I've heard that too, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department even recommends cut or live bluegill for targeting large catfish, especially Blue cats. That was originally my intention. I just couldn't catch any bluegill to use as bait lol.

Any day fishing whether they are biting or not is a better day being at the office.

I don't know why, but here in Louisiana, you can use Bream for bait but you can't use a net or trap to catch them unless you do it from a privately owned pond.

I don't know the story here. I've heard catfish will eat anything[emoji41]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181005/54e3678c9fb4c57fe55a445469b2c76c.jpg

They truly will. Caught a channel cat at Lake Powell one spring off the houseboat and left if in a live well over night. It ralphed up some pork rib bones, a chunk of blue bubblegum, a rock about the size of a half dollar and sundry other junk. Not fun to clean the livewell. We had ribs the night before and dumped the bones overboard.
