I have a RCBS .243 DC 100gr mold and the vent lines cross right at the nose tip and when I cast with it the boolits come out with propellers? What's up?

make sure the mould is closed and no trash is holding it open.

If it's not a new mold I'd bet someone etched them larger than necessary.

If you can't get it to cast for you, send it to RCBS and they'll make it right for ya. They replaced a mould for me years ago when I tried to teach a friend to cast...he beat hell out of the sprueplate, I sent it to RCBS with the intention of paying for repairs-but they replaced it free of charge. Can't beat RCBS's customer service...well Dillon is pretty close.

I had a new 9MM-147 that cast the same way. I sent it back to RCBS & a new one was quickly delivered. The new mold casts just fine.

Man, I hate it when someone beats me to an idea! :bigsmyl2:
A self propelled boolit yet! :veryconfu
I would not worry much about it if the little nub will scape off with a fingernail.
I made one mold with the vents too large and I call them "cactus" boolits. They put the "sticks" to deer. [smilie=s:

Just be sure that the propeller's pitch is the same direction as your barrel's rifling twist, or the boolits might fly back into your barrel.

..............Could be a number of things. Has it always done this, or is this it's first outting?

Possibilities:

1) Vent IS too large but if the same size as the rest of them it's just in a poor spot. Conatact RCBS and get a new one.

2) Alloy is too hot. Blocks too hot.
3) Alloy is too 'liquid'. Usually means a high tin content. Can flow like a sunuvagun.
4) Alloy pressure too great when pouring.
Bottom pour: Hold mould away from spout, hold mould at a slight angle to the spout initially then turn upright, have alloy stream hit edge of spruehole countersink .
Dipper: Hold dipper slightly off spruehole countersink when beginning the pour, Have alloy stream hit edge of spruehole countersink.

I have an rcbs 45 saa 270 mould that does this. I always get one that has it and the other dosent. If the lead is too hot I get it with both.
