I finally broke down and ordered a lyman casting kit and some tin. I have some pure pb as well as ww. I also ordered a mold from nei cut with their 130 gr gc and 160 gr gc .264 bullets. Most of the recipes I have found are for pistol powders. I would like to start with rifle powders. I have both 4895's, IMR 4064, sr4759, H322, H335, benchmark, R 10X,Varget, H4831, H4350, as well as red dot, blue dot, H universal clays, bullseye,H110, and W296. Just about forgot, I have 3 swedes and one .260 rem model seven. I was thinking of using ww with some tin added to start, or should I add some shot for antimony? I have about 30 lbs of shot that I don't have a use for. If it seems that I have poor manners in that I don't say thanks right away, I'm a truckdriver and might not get back to the puter for a couple of weeks. Thanks in advance. Tom

Welcome aboard, Tom. I can't help with the 6.5mm question, but there are a number of folks here who can, and they will chime in directly I'm certain.

..........Tom, welcome to the board! The 6.5x55 Swede isn't anymore difficult to get shooting well with cast then any other rifle. Your WW alloy should be fine. If you find it filling poorly add a bit of tin. Say 1/2% at first. The limitations placed on the Swede's velocity is due to the fast twist.

You should find happiness in accuracy with speeds up to about 1650 fps. You may be able to get good consistant accuracy a bit faster. One thing about the 6.5 is that the slug doesn't have to be going REALLY fast for some downrange power. The high BC's attached to most slugs allow them to carry thier energy and trajectory very well.

I sued ot compete in our ranges silhuette matches, not as a competitor but just shooting in what they called the "Cowboy" portion. Basicly this was the cast lead bunch and was not rated, nor did we have to belong to a sanctioning body. Anyway, a 152 gr cast slug from the Swede starting at 1550fps has enough oomph at 200 meters to topple the ram.

The trajectory usually only meant 2 sight changes and one minor hold change for the 4 lines of targets.

For loads I would start with any of the faster rifle powders and work between 1500 and 1650 fps. That would be SR4759, 4227, 4198 type stuff.

Personally I use either surplus WC860 or WC872 with charges varying between 32 & 35 grs. You don't show any surplus numbers, but I' just added what I use in case you wondered.

Tom, howdy! My favorite Swede load is Lyman 266???, 150 grainer, with 17.0/IMR4227. Goes about 1650 fps. Keep the speed down due to the fast twist. From the powders you listed, I would start with 4759 and your 160 grainer. But, that's just a place to start. Can't help with the .260. sundog
