Made a pretty good score at Hunting and Fishing days at John A. Logan College.
For $25 I got a set of Lyman Handles and two moulds. The first one is an oll little hollow base Lyman 450229. I found a picture of it on Cast Pics looks like a 155 grain hb target boolit; but I still don't know what it is for.

The second mould is missing it's base plug but it came with the handles. The blocks are labled 542622DW. No idea what it might be for. Like I said the whole pile was $25 and I could use the handles. If anyone knows what these critters fit please let me know.

Thanks

The 450229 I use for .44 cap&ball revolvers. Look at the bottom of the cavity. If the mould is well made, there will be a tiny step or rebate that just fits into the chamber of a black powder revolver, and allows the boolit to be seated properly. The balance of the boolit will size down when it is seated in the cylinder. If this step is to any extent over- or undersized, the boolit won't start properly, and will be pretty dicey for accuracy.

The 54 caliber I can't help you with. For $25 you would have gotten a real buy just for the 450229, getting all the rest of the stuff was a major bargain.

Thumbcocker:

As Bent Ramrod says, the #450229 was made (1951 - 1983) for the .44 caliber cap & ball revolvers. The #452622 (the "DW" is a code for the supplier who made the cherry for Lyman) is a Minie'-ball for the .54 caliber M/L rifles; introduced in 1979, it is still listed by Lyman. They may be able to fit it with a new base-plug (call Customer Service first); or maybe Buckshot can make one for you.

The 450229 is also pretty good in the original 44 Colt. I had the oportunity to load some for a Richards conversion. (Heel crimping is not a fun task and it was before I found the 41 Colt webpage.)

I have also used it in the 45 AR, and a couple of shots from a 45 muzzle loader. That was so long ago, I don't remember if it was good for either purpose.

There's an additional use for the 450229, if you have a .45 revolver. The e-clip is supposed to be seated flush with the blocks. If you seat it on top of the screw, the boolit weighs about 225. Seat these backwards in an ACP case, pick your powder(I like PB). Helluva housegun load.
