I've been hankerin to try a Loverin designed bullet in my 30 cal rifles, particularly in my .308 that has resisted all attempts at what I consider accurate shooting.

I found a single cavity Ideal 311466 mould on evilbay for what I considered a reasonable price and on a buy-it-now auction!

There was a minor hold up with Canadian Customs but it has arrived safely.

I'm thinking that the Ideal name probably dates it to the '20s. It sure makes you wonder how many hands have cast how many boolits with it in nearly a century.

It also make me wonder if anyone will still be pouring boolits with the old Ideal mould and running them through an '03 long after I'm gone.:drinks:

I was given a 311466 Ideal when I first started casting by my old boss a non-cast, he had no use for it so he gave it to me. Along with a few other Ideal 30 caliber molds.

I didnt know what I had and traded it off, for something. Now that I have been casting for a while I have a pretty good idea what it was for and really wish I hadnt traded it.

Got to like those Loverins ! !

I have the 466 and the 467. Target below was shot with the 467. The 467 is one of my favorite .30 cal. cast bullets.

Ben,
That is a very impressive group!
What type of lube do you use?

40 % NRA Formula 50/50 Beeswax and Alox
10% High Pressure , Black Moly Grease
8 % Johnson's Paste Wax & Dextron II Trans. Fluid
2 % STP

I had mine taken out to throw at .315 for the .303 Brit and one cavity made into a truncated FN (poor man's Eagan).

Please tell me more.
Why do you like the Loverin?
Is it because it holds so much lube?
I am recently back to casting now that I am retired, and I have one of those; 311466 DX.
I don't remember if it was mine or my dad's originally.

The Loverin has a lot of the bullet body in contact with the bore.

It has a bare minimum amount of nose unsupported.

The Loverin also carries plenty of lube, a hard combination to beat.

If a rifle has a long throat or a worn throat, a long Loverin like the 311467 can reach out and engrave the rifling.

Thanks.
I can see how lots of bearing surface and plenty lube would work together.
I hadn't thought about the forward placement of the first band. Looks like it helps to improve the bullet alignment with the bore axis and produce improved accuracy.
I really have to try this one out at the range.

Speaking of loverins, someone buy the the Lyman 287405 in the Swappin & Sellin thread: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=36132.

This is a 150gr loverin for 7mm which I have also found sizes down nicely for 270.

I have one already. I used to have two. There was a bit of interest in that mold here a while back and I ended up trading my spare off. I can't believe that one is still there going begging.
