Marlin 32 H&R Mag Rifle

I am looking at a used Marlin 32 H&R Mag Rifle
The guy only wants $100 for it
But it needs a new mag tube and most likely a new spring
As the mag tube is bent

Also no front or rear sights
IMO neither should be hard to fix & replace

The guy took a 10/22 scope base and drilled a new hole
And had a CHEAP 7/8 4X scope on it

I looked at it this afternoon and even shot it .... single shot style

The only problem other than the mag tube I saw was a LOT of copper fouling
So I am guessing it was never cleaned


Is there anything I should look for ?

As I am not looking to to keep it
I was thinking of replacing the Mag tube and putting sights back on it

Then selling it
Sort of a investment

But I don't want to buy a rifle that has problems that will cost a bunch to fix

Buy that rifle as they are hard to find, been looking for one myself. Not sure where you would get an original mag tube for one though, as I doubt Remlin would have kept any parts for them after their move .

The mag tube could be bent because it had a feeding problem and someone didn’t know what they were doing. If you’ve been through the mechanism and feel good about it then $100 seems a bargain.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Had a new one and sold it last year. You should be able to fix it up and make a shooter out of it for a reasonable cost.

I have always wondered what some of these people were thinking when they do stuff like that to a nice gun. Over the years most of the guns I have confiscated as evidence have some kind of fupa the owner did trying to IMPROVE it.

I'm sure some kind of good quality tubing from an industrial supply house would work if no parts were available. The end may need to be formed to accept the end of the plunger.

Buy it now; the tube may even share a common size with other easier to find calibers and a simple
Fix. I have a good shooting buddy who’s lusted after one for a while; we found one at a gun show; the guy must have been looking to retire on selling it, the price was over the rainbow!

You should have bought it right away. They are hard to find much less buy. The mag tube might be fixable depending on how badly it was bent.

If you can't find a replacement tube, you can shorten the original.

The action is worth $300. The barrel is worth $100. The wood is worth $100- see where I'm going here? Too bad you held back because it's gone now most assuredly.

When I think about it, most of these lever action magazine tubes are really just a tube of steel, aluminum, etc. One could easily order a tube of the correct size from one of the metal supply houses, and cut it to length, file the notch in it, have it blued if needed, and viola, a new magazine tube. You wouldn't need any special tools either.

Ha,ha,ha. You guys are after the man's heart! If all else fails, I'll buy it,too! I agree. It's probably sold by now. I'd like to know, Johnch, if you did in fact buy it. I know a shooting buddy who has one & shoots at our HP matches. Personally, I shoot a TC. It would be nice to have a companion rifle. As a side note, I shoot a 32-20 Marlin CL & a Marlin CBC in
38 Spl.(like'm both) Hmmm. A 32 H&R in a Marlin would fit in nicely. I'm jealous for you if you acquire it. FYI, a competent gunsmith can straighten that tube.
