Wasn't my intention to cast these up air cooled wanted to water quench them as it's my usual hunting bullet alloy . Anyways what's done is done bullet is the Lee 200 gr . Is this air cooled alloy too soft for full speed loading in the 35 Rem ? The water quenched alloy never gave me issues with these loads. Normally load 4895 in the 37-38 gr range . I'm sure they will expand well on deer possibly too much I think . What say you all .

You could always heat-treat them in your oven to raise the BHN if you think it's necessary.

Mine are air cooled and gas checked and I push them good and hard. 190 gr bullet and 28 gr 4198

Oven heat treat and quench. Or work up through the pressure range and see if accuracy will hold.

I'm too lazy to de-lube them and oven heat them so I'll give them a go as is , I'll start around 34 gr and see what happens . I only cast up around 50 so not a big deal if they don't work out they recycle well .

Thanks , Tim

For hunting with my RCBS 35-200-FN in my 35 Rem I use an AC'd alloy of COWW + 2% tin then mixed 50/50 with lead. I push them to 2150 fps (26" barrel) with 37 gr 4895. They hold excellent accuracy to 200 yards (my self inflicted max hunting range with cast) but I do clean the barrel every 7 or 8 rounds to maintain that accuracy for hunting.

Target shows 2 five shot groups at 100 yards adjusting and confirming zero. Then rear sight was moved up 3 moa and the 200 yards group was fired. Second pic shows 5 rounds in stripper clip ready to load. Last pic shows end result.

Thanks for the reply Mr Gibson , I've seen your posting of that rifle and info before it's what actually guided me for my load combo in my bolt action 35 Rem . Always thought you used water quenched alloy though. Feeling better about my mistake after reading your post more carefully .

Yeah, 50-50 ww and pure mix air cooled w a gas check works good at full speed. The consensus says you’ll be fine
