I don't use the 340gr myself. Paul Matthews wrote about using a 330gr Gould Hollow Point with good results for Whitetail Deer, but he also leaned toward the heavier boolits too. I'm inclined to stick with 400gr and upwards. FWIW my 1895 likes a 400gr PB boolit at 1400fps and it shoots rather good with it when I do my part. All my shooting these days revolves around the 45-70. Great Caliber. I have data for the 340gr. PM me if you need it.

Pete: That's one of my favorite utility bullets in the Marlin .45-70. Try it with 17 grains Unique. You'll like it for plinking and paper punching, and it is a good finisher load if you need to put one in the neck of a deer from close range.

I know alot of people like the Lee 340 grain boolit, but I could never get it to shoot nearly as well as the Lee 405 grain or any other heavy boolit for that matter in my 45-70 Marlin. I was hoping to use it as a light weight plinking boolit but like SharpShooter, I stick with 400 grain class boolits.

That's a very respectable group. Throw out the flyer and it certainly looks like you have found a good combination for your 1895. I may have to try that one. I bet the recoil is right comfortable too.

its a very mellow load.this was the first time I had the marlin out.not real fond of the stock sights.at 50 yards they pretty much cover the target.
think this one will get a reciever sight.

The receiver sight is the way to go. Mine had one on it when I swapped for it and I wouldn't use any other system for leverguns.

If you shot the group with buckhorn factory sights, you have a good eye for the sight.
